Sutherlin's Career-High 22 Points Lifts 'Cats Past Dartmouth, 70-56

DURHAM, N.H. – Sean Sutherlin (New Brighton, Minn.) scored a career-high 22 points to lead the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to Monday afternoon's 70-56 victory against intrastate rival Dartmouth College at Lundholm Gym.
Sutherlin scored 17 of his game-high 22 points in the second half. He had a strong shooting performance by making 8 of 10 field goal attempts and going 6-for-7 at the foul line.
Chris Lester (Barrington, Ill.) pulled down a game and career-high 11 rebounds and added eight points. Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.; 12 points) and Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.; 10) also scored in double digits.
Dartmouth was led by Chris Knight (15 points, nine rebounds). James Foye and Trevor Ary-Turner netted 11 points apiece.
UNH improved to 7-6 overall by remaining unbeaten (5-0) at home. DC is now 7-7.

•New Hampshire returns to action and begins America East conference play Jan. 4 (2 p.m.) at the University of Hartford.

FIRST HALF
•UNH went on a 6-0 run to take a 10-4 lead. Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.) started the run with a catch-and-shoot 3-pointer followed by Sutherlin's three-point play at 14:17.
•Lester's short jumper extended the advantage to eight points, 16-8, at 6:54.
•Dartmouth went on a 6-0 run to cut the Wildcat lead to 16-14 at 5:31.
•Two 3-pointers from Mark Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.) pushed the UNH lead back up to 22-14 with 3:10 remaining in the half.
•The Big Green made two free throws to cap off a 6-0 run that cut the deficit to 22-20 at 1:35.

•The Wildcats responded with an 8-0 run fueled by 3-pointers from Maultsby and Guadarrama. They were followed by Sutherlin's transition layup to give the 'Cats a 38-34 lead with 12:10 remaining.
•Dartmouth netted a 3-ball on the next possession and called a timeout, but New Hampshire responded with a 7-0 spurt that extended the advantage to 45-37 at 10:52.
•The Big Green answered with an 8-1 run to cut the UNH lead to 46-45 at 8:45.
•UNH capped off a 10-2 run with Lester's 3-pointer with 5:13 remaining to give the Wildcats a 56-47 advantage. A pair of Sutherlin fastbreak layups sandwiched a Hopkins 3-ball during that spurt.
