Storey Tallies 19 as UNH Falls to NDSU, 67-61

Game of runs ends in favor of the Bison.
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team hosted the North Dakota State University Bison in Lundholm Gym on Sunday afternoon; the second-ever meeting of the two programs on the hardwood ended in a 67-61 victory for the NDSU Bison.
New Hampshire had four players reach the double digits in scoring and as a team shot 85% from the free throw line, but the Wildcats couldn't overcome an early deficit set by the Bison, who led by 11 points at halftime.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) led the way in scoring for UNH, she finished with 19 points, while grabbing five rebounds, and blocking three shots, which is a season high.
- Sophomore forward Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) had 11 points and eight rebounds, and shot 7-8 from the free throw line.
- Freshman guard Héléna Delaruelle (Enghien-les-Bains, France) ended the game with 10 points, with five rebounds, and five assists on just two turnovers.
- Senior guard Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) finished the day with 12 points and four steals; Soucy drained two threes in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the game tied at nine points four minutes into the game, North Dakota State went on an 8-2 run to lead the Wildcats' 17-11 midway through the first quarter.
- UNH then went on a 6-2 run to bring the deficit to 19-17 heading into the end of the first quarter.
- UNH opened up the second quarter by causing back to back turnovers, and with the help of a free throw made by Storey, the Wildcats retook the lead 22-21 with eight minutes remaining.
- UNH made a pair of free throws to bring the score to 24-23, then NDSU went on to score the next 10 points to leave the Wildcats' trailing 33-24 with two minutes remaining in the half.
- After a made free throw by Gogolin with a minute and a half left, neither team scored a bucket until NDSU hit a buzzer-beater three to end the first half with the Wildcat's trailing 36-25.
- UNH opened the third quarter with six straight points forcing NDSU to call a timeout, reducing the deficit to just six points at 36-31.
- Following the timeout, NDSU outscored UNH 9-4 to bring the score to 45-35, leaving the Wildcats' trailing by double digits once again.
- UNH went on to outscore NDSU 7-4, putting the score at 49-42 NDSU at the end of three. UNH outscored North Dakota 17-13 in the third quarter, despite having seven turnovers.
- The Wildcats' scored the first points of the fourth quarter with a jumper by Soucy, but the Bison answered back with two scores of their own to maintain the momentum.
- NDSU called a timeout with 3 and a half minutes left in the game after UNH scored back to back buckets, one of them for three made by sophomore Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.), to bring the game within six points.
- NDSU, following the timeout, turned the ball over on a foul before the ball was inbounded, but stopped UNH on the ensuing possession, getting free throws on their next possession to retake an eight point lead.
- UNH was able to outscore NDSU 10-6 in the last three minutes, however the Bison were able to hold on the lead and take the win with a final score of 67-61.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- New Hampshire made 9-30 FGs in the first half, leaving them trailing at halftime, however the Cats' were able to rebound back and shoot 11 for 29 allowing them to outscore NDSU in the entire second half.
- NDSU had a lot production coming off their bench, as 47 of their 67 points came from non-starters, versus New Hampshire's 6.
- Both teams were able to score 14 points off turnovers.
- Although there were 7 lead changes and 6 times tied, the Wildcats' only had 2:57 with the lead, with NDSU having the lead for the other 33:52.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- NDSU has now won both meetings between the two programs all-time. This was the first meeting of the two teams in Lundholm Gymnasium.
- UNH tallied four double-digit scorers for the second time this season, the first was also at home against Wheaton.
- New Hampshire is now 0-3 in games decided by 10 points or less.
