Fanikos Tallies Goal in 4-1 Loss at Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Bailey Fanikos (Lynnfield, Mass.) scored a third-quarter goal to lift the University of New Hampshire field hockey within a tally, but Providence College scored twice in the fourth to secure a 4-1 win Sunday afternoon at Lennon Family Field.
UNH goalkeeper Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) recorded seven saves and PC counterpart Lydia Rice stopped five shots.
The Wildcats, who had won two in a row, are now 7-6 overall. PC improved to 8-5.

1st QUARTER
- The defenses dominated the opening 15 minutes. Both teams recorded one shot and UNH had the only penalty corner.
2nd QUARTER
- The Friars took a 1-0 lead at 17:29 when Sydney Cramer scored on a reverse-stick shot.
- Izzy Mendez extended the advantage to 2-0 at 26:37.
- PC recorded the edge in both shots (7-0) and corners (3-0) in the second quarter.
3rd QUARTER
- New Hampshire responded strongly out of halftime with a 7-1 shot advantage and 3-0 edge in corners in the third QUARTER.
- On a corner in the 34th minute, a by Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands) was blocked by a Friars' defender.
- Moments later, Finn Caron (Hampton, N.H.) was denied twice by Rice.
- The 'Cats earned another corner and sustained pressure led to shots on goal by both Caron and van den Brekel that were stopped by Rice.
- UNH would not be denied, however, as the third shot – this time off the reverse stick by Fanikos from the left side – lifted the Wildcats within 2-1 at 34:05.
4th QUARTER
- Mary O'Reilly and Mikayla Michals scored goals 61 seconds apart – at 52:51 and 53:52 – to quickly push the margin to 4-1.
- The Wildcats recorded just one shot – wide by Fanikos in the last minute – the rest of the way.
