BALTIMORE, Md. – Freshman guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis.) scored a career-high 20 points and senior forward Alli Gribbin (Keller, Texas) added 11 points and a career-best 13 rebounds for her first double-double, but a fierce rally came up just short and the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team dropped a 64-62 decision at UMBC on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats continue a two-game road-trip with a game at Albany on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
UNH is 4-16 overall and 1-6 in America East.
The Wildcats trailed after three quarters, 53-39, and roared back in the fourth period.
Senior guard Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) made a layup with 1:34 left in the game to tie it at 62-62. But the Retrievers came up with the final bucket in the lane with four seconds to play.
UMBC snapped a seven-game losing streak and is 7-13 overall and also 1-6 in the league.
The Wildcats played their fifth game without their leading scorer, junior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine). Storey is out with a foot injury and is expected to miss at least six weeks.
Soucy had 13 points and five rebounds.
UMBC junior guard Tyler Moore led all scorers with 27 points and made seven of the 11 three-point shots she attempted.

Gribbin made it two straight games with double-doubles for the Wildcats.
Freshman forward Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) had one on Wednesday night with 12 points and 10 rebounds against Hartford.
Gribbin's double-double was the sixth this season for UNH by the fifth different player. Her previous career high in rebounds was eight.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UMBC opened a 20-12 lead after one period and was on top 32-26 at the half.
The Retrievers ran their lead to 53-34 with just over two minutes to go in the third period.
The Wildcats rallied from there. Brekke hit a three-pointer and added a couple of foul shots to cut the margin to 53-39 after three periods.
UNH ran off the first seven points of the fourth period and made it a 21-4 overall run and it was 57-55 with 4:16 to go.
The Retrievers opened the lead back to 62-55 with 2:38 left.
Sophomore guard Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H) made a couple of free throws, Brekke had a three-pointer and Soucy a layup to tie it 62-62 with 1:34 left.
The Wildcats had a couple of chances late but could not get a go-ahead bucket and Te'yJah Oliver scored in the paint with four seconds left for the win.
