Gogolin's Double-Double Paces 'Cats in Loss to Hartford

DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman forward Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored 12 points and collected a career-high 10 rebounds for her first career double-double to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team in a 66-48 loss to America East-leading Hartford on Wednesday night in Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Wildcats play at UMBC on Saturday at noon.
UNH is 4-15 overall and 1-5 in America East.
Hartford won its eighth straight game and improved to 13-7 overall and 6-0 in the league.
The Wildcats played their fourth game without their leading scorer, junior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine). Storey is out with a foot injury and is expected to miss at least six weeks.
Senior guard Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) had 10 points and freshman guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis.) had 12 to join Gogolin in double figures.
Senior guard Lindsey Abed led Hartford with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Wildcats start a two-game road-trip at UMBC in Baltimore on Saturday at noon.
They play at Albany on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 11 a.m.

Gogolin's double-double was the fifth of the season for the Wildcats. Her previous high in rebounds was nine against the University of New England.
Four different players have had double-doubles for UNH. Storey and Soucy each have had one. Sophomore forward Maggie Ahearn (Marshfield, Mass.) had a pair of double-doubles before a knee injury ended her season after nine games.
Gogolin, who came off the bench, had eight points and five rebounds in the first half while leading the Wildcats to a 25-23 lead at the break.
Gogolin made five of the six shots she took in the game and both of her free throws.
Soucy had seven points and five rebounds in the first half. UNH held a 19-15 edge in rebounds in the first half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
An 8-0 run gave UNH an 11-4 lead with 2:16 left in the first period and the Wildcats finished the period up 13-9.
Gogolin had six points in the first period.
The 'Cats moved in front 19-9 early in the second period.
Hartford ran off 14 straight points to go up 23-19 with just over a minute left in the half.
Freshman guard Kali Grimm (Norwood Young America, Minn.) nailed a three-pointer from the left corner and sophomore guard Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) finished off a traditional three-point play with a foul shot and UNH led 25-23 at the half.
Hartford opened the third quarter with 12 consecutive points and outscored UNH 23-5 in the period.
