Brekke, Gribbin Hit Career Highs in Loss at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Freshman guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis.) and senior forward Alli Gribbin (Keller, Texas) each scored a career-high 17 points to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team in a 69-60 loss at Vermont on Wednesday night.
The Wildcats play their next game Wednesday, Jan. 23 against Hartford at home.
UNH is now 4-14 overall and 1-4 in America East.
Vermont is 6-11 overall and 2-3 in the league.
The Wildcats played their third game without their leading scorer, junior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine). Storey is out with a foot injury and is expected to miss at least six weeks.
Junior forward Hannah Crymble led four Catamounts in double figures with 15 points and also had nine rebounds.
NEXT UP
The Wildcats have this weekend off and take on Hartford at home on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
They hit the road for games at UMBC on Saturday, Jan. 26 at noon and at Albany on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 11 a.m.
They are back home for games against Maine on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. and UMass Lowell on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.

Gribbin had 11 of her points in the fourth quarter to lead a UNH charge. The Wildcats outscored the Catamounts 24-10 in the final period.
Brekke made both of her three-point baskets in the second quarter and was three-for-five from behind the arc in the game. She also had three rebounds and two steals.
Gribbin had five rebounds, a couple of assists and three steals. She made all three of her free throws.
Brekke's previous career best was 16 points and Gribbin's was 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman forward Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) had half of the Wildcat points in the first period and they trailed 18-8 when it ended.
Brekke scored all 10 of her first points in the second quarter and Vermont led, 38-26, at the half.
Brekke made both of her three-point shots in the second period and added a couple of two-point baskets.
Vermont extended the lead to 59-36 after three periods.
Led by Gribbin, the Wildcats chipped away at the lead in the fourth quarter.
Brekke's steal and layup with 28.9 seconds left set the final score.
