Rudert Stops Seven Shots in 4-0 Loss to #19 BU

DURHAM, N.H. – Kelsey Rudert (North Grafton, Mass.) made seven saves but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was defeated 4-0 by 19th-ranked Boston University in Sunday afternoon's Wildcat Classic title game at Memorial Field. BU's Ailsa Connolly was named the tournament MVP.
UNH, a 3-2 winner vs. UMass on Friday, is now 1-1. BU, which advanced to the title game with Friday's 4-1 win vs. Northeastern University, improved to 2-0.
Rudert made five saves in the first half to keep the Wildcats close, and also made a diving save on a penalty stroke for one of her two second-half saves.
Ally Hammel led BU's attack with a goal and three assists. Connolly, Allie Doggett and Petra Hall were the other goal scorers. Three goalkeepers combined to make one save for the shutout. Starter Kathleen Keegan was credited with the win for her 35-minute effort. Millie Baker entered the game at the start of the second half and was credited with one save in 31:41. Livy Golini played the final 3:29.

UNH's five-game homestand continues Aug. 31 (6 p.m.) against Harvard University.

- BU outshot UNH 13-8 with an 11-1 edge in shots on goal.
- The Terriers broke the game open in the second half with two quick goals. Doggett struck at 53:51 and Connolly scored 51 seconds later to give the visitors a 4-0 lead.
GAME RECAP
- Boston U. took a 1-0 lead at 18:07 when Hammel's entry pass from near midfield was controlled by Hall in the middle of the circle and she scored on a low blast inside the right post.
- The Terriers were awarded a penalty stroke at 23:46 and Hammel converted with a shot low inside the right post.
- BU took that 2-0 lead with an 8-1 shot advantage and 3-0 edge in penalty corners into halftime.
- UNH generated a dangerous scoring opportunity that produced a corner in the 47th minute. From the top of the circle, Nicky Bajus (Lions Bay, British Columbia) fired a low shot through traffic toward the left post on which Baker made a diving blocker save.
- The visitors converted a corner into a goal and 3-0 lead at 53:51. Hammel corralled a pass on the top-right side and her hard shot was stopped by Doggett down low. Dogget then lifted a shot from close range into the cage.
- Connolly extended the advantage to 4-0 at 54:42. Connolly corralled Hammel's aerial pass on the left wing, dribbled into the top-left side and struck a rising shot under the crossbar.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- In the second half, UNH generated the edge in both shots (7-5) and corners (4-3).
- Both teams were issued two green cards and one yellow card.
