New Hampshire heads to Dartmouth for the women’s pentathlon and the quad-meet.
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team will head to Hanover, N.H. this weekend for their last event of December, the Dartmouth Pentathlon and quad-meet.
The weekend kicks off with the Dartmouth Pentathlon on Friday evening at Leverone Field House starting at 5 P.M. The Wildcats will have two mutli-event athletes competing in this year's pentathlon, sophomore Lauren Quann (Pictou, Nova Scotia) and junior transfer Bosibori Mosongo (Indianapolis, Ind.), who transferred from South Plains College this season.
The quad-meet with Maine, Vermont, and Dartmouth begins the next morning, Saturday December 8 at 11 A.M. The Wildcats are looking to build off a strong dual meet victory at Maine and continue to improve as the season goes on.
The Wildcats will be looking for another big weekend from returners Jessica Hackett (Dover, N.H.), Shannon Stang (Medford, N.J.), Alyssa Colbert (Smithfield, R.I.) and newcomers Kelly Hamlin (Ballston, Lake, N.Y.), Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) and Saige TuDisco (Haverhill, Mass.) who all add first-place finishes in their events at Maine last weekend.
UP NEXT:
After finals and a winter break, the Wildcats resume the indoor track season with a home dual meet with Holy Cross at Paul Sweet Oval in the UNH Fieldhouse on Saturday, January 19 at 12 P.M.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Wildcats took the dual meet with the Maine Black Bears with a team score of 94 to Maine's 83.
The Wildcats had a strong showing from both returners and newcomers alike, with first-place finishers in 10 of the 33 events.
The track performers once again shined for New Hampshire, with Jessica Hackett (Dover, N.H.) leading the way with a first-place finish in the 400 meter run, just missing her personal best with a finishing time of 59.83 seconds. In the 800m run, Shaylyn Saunders (Hudson, N.H.) set a new personal best with a first place finish in 2:22.15
The Wildcats also had one-two finishes in the mile and the 500m run; a pair of freshmen Kelly Hamlin (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and Lauren Dean (Gilmanton, N.H.) took first and second place, respectively, in the 500m; Hamlin posted a time of 1:19.63, with Dean right behind her at 1:19.77. In the mile it was a pair of returners, Shannon Stang (Medford, N.J.) and Madeleine Brandon (Killingworth, Conn.) taking a one-two finish in the mile. Stang was the first to cross at 5:20.72, a new personal best by about six seconds, and Brandon finished just under a second behind her at 5:21.26.
UNH also saw wins in the weight throw and the shot put, with returner Alyssa Colbert (Smithfield, R.I.) taking first in the weight with a 44-foot, 5.25-inch throw, a new personal best, and freshman Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) winning the shotput with her first collegiate mark, 39'7.25".
FROM THE COACH:
On the Pentathlon: "For both of them [Quann and Mosongo], it's their first pentathlon ever in a UNH uniform, so it's exciting for them to start. They are multi-event athletes and they've been training specifically for the multi event: the pentathlon indoors and the heptathlon outdoors. We're really looking forward to having these two compete."
"I'm happy with a lot of what happened last weekend up at Maine and at BU. It's good to have these back to back meets to help build on those successes."
- Head Coach Robert Hoppler
