Second-Half Comeback Falls Short vs. Marist, 58-49

DURHAM, N.H. – Jordan Reed (Lucas, Texas) recorded 12 points and eight rebounds in the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team's 58-49 loss to Marist College at Lundholm Gym on Wednesday afternoon.
Reed, whose eight boards were a career high, made 50 percent of his field goal attempts, and that included 4 of 7 from 3-point range. Mark Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.) scored 11 points with three 3-pointers. Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) finished with nine points and eight rebounds, while Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) recorded eight points and seven rebounds. Elijah Jordan (Orlando, Fla.) had a season-high eight assists as well as six points and four rebounds.
Marist was led offensively by Brian Parker (13 points), Darius Hines (11) and Ryan Funk (11). Luke Nedrow led the team in rebounds (seven) and Aleksander Dozic had a team-high four assists.
UNH is now 2-9 overall and the Red Foxes leveled their record at 5-5.

FIRST HALF
- Martinez hit a 3-pointer at 19:42 to give the Wildcats a 3-0 start.
- UNH took its largest lead of the game, 9-4, when Reed hit 3-pointers at 18:20 and 16:43.
- Carbone's first 3-pointer of the game lifted the 'Cats within 14-12 at 11:37, but UNH was held scoreless the rest of the half.
- Marist led 19-12 midway through the first half and inched out to a 23-12 lead with five minutes on the clock.
- The Red Foxes began pulling away on back-to-back 3's by Isaiah Lamb and David Knudsen that gave the visitors at 29-12 advantage at 2:51.
- Marist scored two more field goals in the final two minutes to take a 33-12 lead into the second half.
SECOND HALF
- Guadarrama made a fast break layup to narrow the gap to 33-14 at 18:23.
- Another 3-pointer from Reed, a jumper by Martinez and Guadarrama layup helped lift the 'Cats withihn 35-22 at 15:52.
- The Wildcats continued to trim the deficit to 35-27 off a layup from Guadarrama and a 3-pointer from Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) at 13:00.
- Another 3-pointer drained by Martinez and a jumper from Jordan advanced the score to 38-32 at 10:59.
- The Red Foxes responded with a 10-3 run the next three minutes to extend their lead to 48-35.
- Carbone connected on a 3-pointer from the right corner and made a layup to narrow the gap to single digits, 48-40, at 4:55.
- Reed's fourth 3-pointer of the game lifted New Hampshire within 52-45 at 3:44, but the 'Cats missed 3's on their next two possessions and Marist pushed the margin to 56-45.
- UNH trimmed the margin to 56-47 on a layup by Guadarrama at 1:15, but the Wildcats would get no closer the rest of the way.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- The all-time series record between New Hampshire and Marist is now even at 3-3. This was the first win by a road team.
- These programs met annually four consecutive years spanning the 2008-09 to 2011-12 seasons with the Wildcats winning the previous matchup, 73-56, at Lundholm Gymnasium on Dec. 17, 2011.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire has lost eight straight since recording a 100-61 win vs. Mount Saint Vincent on Nov. 12.
- UNH has not used the same starting lineup in consecutive games the past nine games, including Wednesday's first-time combination of Reed, Jordan, Maultsby, Guadarrama and Martinez.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- UNH shot 35.2 percent from the floor (19-for-54) compared to Marist's 47.9 percent (23-for-48). In the second half, the Wildcats improved to 46.9 percent (15 of 32).
- New Hampshire made just 10 of 33 3-point attempts for a percentage of 30.3 while Marist shot 6-for-16 for 37.5 percent.
- The Red Foxes made 6 of 20 free throws (30.0%) while UNH shot 20.0 percent (1-for-5).
