Wildcats Skate to 3-3 Tie with Maine

ORONO, Maine – Freshman forward Charlie Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) recorded one goal and two assists for three points as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team tied Maine, 3-3, on Saturday evening at Alfond Arena. Last night, the two teams skated to a 2-2 tie.
These rivals will meet for the third time this season on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7:00 p.m. in Durham, N.H., for "White Out The Whitt." Tickets can be purchased at the Whittemore Center Box Office, online at UNHWildcats.com or by calling 603-862-4000.
The Wildcats are now 7-0-2 versus the Black Bears over the last nine meetings.
Junior forward Ara Nazarian (Boxford, Mass.) and senior defenseman Richard Boyd (Delray Beach, Fla.) also each scored a goal for the Wildcats.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nazarian gave UNH a 1-0 lead when he fired a shot from the left face-off circle to the lower corner of the net on the stick side of Maine goalie Jeremy Swayman. Kelleher and junior forward Marcus Vela (Burnaby, British Columbia) each posted an assist on the goal.
- With just 48.7 seconds left in the first period, Maine tied the contest at 1-1 when Ryan Smith knocked in a loose puck on the glove side of senior goalie Danny Tirone (Trumbull, Conn.).
- Maine outshot the Wildcats, 11-8, while the Black Bears went 0-2 on the power play.
- UNH took a 2-1 lead at 12:30 of the second period when Boyd sent a shot from the blue line past Swayman for the power play goal. Kelleher and sophomore forward Brendan van Riemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.) each tallied an assist on the goal.
- The Black Bears tied the game at 2-2 with 1:16 remaining in the second period with a power play goal by Canon Pieper.
- UNH outshot Maine, 12-9, while each team went 1-2 on the man-advantage.
- The Black Bears took a 3-2 lead at 8:47 of the third period when Chase Pearson sent a one timer from in front of the goal to the back of the net.
- Kelleher then tied the game at 3-3 at 10:02 when he scored on a wrist shot that was deflected in front of the net and past Swayman. Senior defenseman Cameron Marks (North Vancouver, British Columbia) and sophomore defenseman Anthony Wyse (Newton, Mass.) each posted an assist.
- Neither team was able to score again for the 3-3 final.

- Maine outshot UNH, 36-30.
- The Wildcats went 1-3 on the power play, while the Black Bears went 1-4.
- Tirone made 33 saves, while Swayman posted 27 for Maine.
