Murdock Shines on Day One of Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Sophomore Shannon Murdock (Exeter, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team finished second overall in the 3,000-meter race at the 52nd Colonial Relays at Walter J. Zable Stadium.
Murdock finished in 9 minutes, 40.18 seconds in her first career attempt at a 3,000-meter race. The race qualified her for ECAC Championships set for May 13-14. There was 51 competitors in the race yesterday.
Additionally, junior Angelyn Masters (Bangor, Maine) competed in the 3K race and finished with a time of 10:19.81 to place her 21st in the event. The time sets a personal record for the Maine native by 16.49 seconds. This was only her second time competing in the event after racing to a time of 10:36.30 at home on April 11, 2015.
The Wildcats currently sit seventh with eight points after day one with 15 teams scored so far.
The Wildcats return to action today at the Relays:
100 hurdles: Emma Checovich (North Hampton, N.H.)
800: Danielle Gajewski (Danville, N.H.)
1,500: Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.)
3K Steeple: Alex Giese (Franklin, Mass.), Sarah Keiran (Rowley, Mass.)
High Jump: Jeannette Mara (Bedford, N.H.), Rachel Morrison (Westwood, Mass.)
