'Cats Hit 20-Win Mark for First Time in 33 Years

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) poured in 24 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to a 66-47 win over Vermont at Lundholm Gymnasium on Thursday night.
The Wildcats improved to 20-4 overall and 10-1 in the America East Conference with the victory.
It marked the only the third time in program history and first time since the 1983-84 season that UNH has hit the 20-win milestone. The Wildcat went 20-8 that season. The year before, 1982-83, they had a 23-7 record while setting the program record for wins.
Junior guard Olivia Healy (Reading, Mass.) had 10 points and seven rebounds and junior forward Kat Fogarty added 11 points and four rebounds. Senior guard Kristen Anderson (Greene, Maine) had eight of UNH's 23 assists in the game.
UNH bounced back nicely after having its program-best win streak snapped at 13 games on Monday at Albany.
Vermont fell to 7-16 overall and 4-7 in America East.

HIGHLIGHTS
The Wildcats set a pass-happy, share-the-ball tone early. They had six assists on their seven baskets in the first period.
Anderson had five of the assists in the first period and the approach became contagious.
The Wildcats had 26 baskets in the game and there were assists on 23 of them. The 23 assists were a season high for the team.
Anderson, who leads the league in assist-to-turnover ratio, added to her numbers. She had the eight assists and just one turnover.
Healy and junior guard Brittni Lai (Irvington, N.Y.) each had four assists.
The Wildcats also had a good shooting night. They were 26-for-54 from the floor (48.1 percent) and made all 10 of their foul shots.
UNH leads the league in rebounding margin and had a 32-26 edge in that category.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats, looking to get off to better starts, did in this one and owned a 16-10 lead at the end of the first period.
Pogue had six points in the period.
UNH led 11-10 with just under three minutes left in the period when Aliza Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.) nailed a three-pointer to ignite a 14-0 run that stretched into the second period.
The Wildcats pushed their lead to 35-22 by halftime. Pogue had 16 points and six rebounds at the break.
The Wildcats were up 56-38 after three periods and well on their way to win No. 20.
