Audino, van den Brekel Propel 'Cats Past #25 Maine, 2-1

ORONO, Maine. – Katie Audino (Severn, Md.) recorded a goal and an assist to lead the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Sunday afternoon's 2-1 victory against 25th-ranked University of Maine at Field Hockey Complex.
Audino's team-leading ninth goal of the season tied the score, 1-1, at 49:29 and then she set up the game-winning goal scored by Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands) with 5:21 remaining in regulation.
Kelsey Rudert (North Grafton, Mass.) recorded four saves each half for a total of eight.
Maine counterpart Emma Cochran, who was lifted the final 3 minutes, 36 seconds in favor of an extra field player, was credited with nine saves.
UNH ends the regular season at 7-11 overall and 4-4 in America East. The Wildcats are the East Division third seed in the 2017 America East Championships and will battle California, which is the No. 2 seed out of the West Division. The quarterfinal game is Nov. 3 at 12 p.m.
Maine ends the regular season at 12-5, 6-2 and fell to the East No. 2 seed with the loss.

GAME RECAP
- Maine took a 1-0 lead at 27:08 when Madison Cummings tipped in Riley Field's shot.
- The Black Bears led by that one-goal margin with a 10-5 shot advantage in the first half.
- New Hampshire leveled the score, 1-1, by converting a penalty corner into a goal at 49:29. There was a scramble for possession and Audino slipped a shot into the cage.
- Audino pressured again at 62:07 but was denied by Cochran, and that sequence prompted Maine to call a timeout.
- The 'Cats generated another corner two minutes later and converted that opportunity into a 2-1 lead. van den Brekel initiated the scoring sequence with the insert and scored by redirecting Audino's shot into the cage at 64:39.
- Maine responded with pressure and was awarded a penalty corner one minute later that generated a flurry of shots. Casey Crowley's initial shot was blocked by a UNH defender, then Brianna Ricker was denied by Rudert. The barrage continued with a Libby Riedl shot attempt that was blocked and then Emily Hindle's chance was turned away by Rudert.
- The Black Bears were issued a green card moments later, at which point UNH called time out at 66:24. When play resumed, Maine pulled Cochran in favor of an extra field player.
- Maine earned another corner with 46 seconds on the clock but was unable to record a shot.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- This was UNH's second win of the season against a nationally-ranked team. The Wildcats defeated No. 17 Iowa – also on the road – on Sept. 8.
- Audino and van den Brekel are tied for the team lead with 22 points.
- van den Brekel extended her point streak to four games with the goal. She has three goals and three assists for nine points during that span.
