Purrier Breaks 4:35 in Winning Mile at BU

DURHAM, N.H. – All American Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) won the mile run in impressive fashion at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational held at the Track & Tennis Center at Boston University on Friday afternoon.
A junior, Purrier turned in a time of four minutes, 34.98 seconds. Her time was the fastest run by a collegian in the indoor mile this season as of Friday afternoon, heading into a weekend of high-profile events around the country. Millie Paladino of Providence College was second in 4:37.53.
Purrier led a contingent of Wildcat milers and other competitors at BU.
Last season, Purrier finished third in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field championships, the best- ever result for a Wildcat runner, in a time of 4:38.42.
Purrier's next race will be the prestigious Wanamaker Mile in the 110th New York Road Runners Millrose Games on Saturday, Feb. 11 in New York City.

- The UNH men's and women's indoor teams have a home meet Saturday, Jan. 28 against Vermont and Maine.
- The throwing events and high jump will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the running events at 1 p.m.
- The Wildcats compete at the Rhode Island Invitational on Feb. 4 at the University of Rhode Island.
- The America East Indoor Championships will be held Feb. 24 and Feb. 25 at the Track & Tennis Center at Boston University.
RACE RESULTS
Senior Hannah Kimball (Atkinson, N.H.) and sophomore Shannon Murdock (Exeter, N.H.) ran to personal best marks in the mile at BU. Among the Wildcat results:
- Kimball set a personal best with a 4:49.01 in her mile heat.
- Murdock had a PR in her heat at 4:53.66.
- Senior Amanda Szymanski (Londonderry, N.H.) went 4:56.01 in the mile.
- Sophomore Shelby Strickland Kennebunk, Maine) finished fourth in the high jump.
- Junior Rachel Morrison (Westwood, Mass.) was fifth in the high jump.
- Junior Emma Checovich (No. Hampton, N.H.) was seventh in the long jump.
- Senior Alyson Messina (Plymouth, Mass.) finished fifth in the 500.
