James & Trevor van Riemsdyk to Sign Autographs Jan. 28

DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire men's hockey fans will have the opportunity to get autographs from former Wildcats and current National Hockey League standouts James van Riemsdyk and Trevor van Riemsdyk this Saturday (Jan. 28) prior to the 7 p.m. hockey game between the Wildcats and the 19th-ranked Providence College Friars at the Whittemore Center.
The van Riemsdyk brothers will sign free autographs on the concourse from 6:15-6:45 p.m. Fans are limited to one signed item from each player. No photos are permitted. A complimentary, specially-designed 8-by-10 inch poster will be available for free if fans don't bring a personal item to be signed.
James van Riemsdyk was the second overall draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2007 NHL Draft before skating for the Wildcats from 2007-09. The forward tallied 74 points on 28 goals and 46 assists in 67 games in a UNH uniform and was named a Hockey East All-Star in 2009. The eldest van Riemsdyk brother played three seasons (2009-12) for the Flyers until he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2012. In 2014, James represented Team USA at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. This season he has amassed 39 points on 17 goals and 22 assists in 46 games for the Leafs.
Trevor van Riemsdyk played three years (2011-14) as a defenseman for the Wildcats, where he collected 75 points on 16 goals and 59 assists in 102 games. As a freshman, the blue-liner was named to the All-Hockey East Rookie Team; he earned All-Hockey East First Team and American Hockey Coaches Association All-American honors his sophomore campaign and was named an alternate captain as a junior. Trevor signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2014 and was a member of the Stanley Cup-winning team in 2015. He has totaled five points on one goal and four assists this season.
Brendan van Riemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.), the youngest brother, will be in action on the ice as UNH wraps up a two-game series with the Friars.
Saturday is also Shirt Off Your Back Night, where fans have the opportunity to bid on the warm-up jerseys the 'Cats will wear all weekend, with proceeds benefitting the UNH men's hockey program. The first 1,500 fans in attendance for Saturday's game will receive a free "I Believe in UNH" knit pom hat, and everyone in attendance will get a complimentary shaker stick.
