DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Daniel Johnson (Lancaster, N.H.) and sophomore Joel Nkounkou (Dover, N.H.) are set to compete at the Holy Cross Decathlon on the campus of the College of the Holy Cross from Wednesday, April 20 through Thursday, April 21.
Johnson has his sights on the program record in the event currently held by Mike Wellington with 6,895 points set in 1989. Johnson is the reigning America East champion in the decathlon and his personal record is 6,421 points which he set at the 2015 IC4A Outdoor Championships last May. This season, the New Hampshire native has set career-best marks in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.44 seconds), long jump (12 feet, 11.75 inches) and the javelin (168 feet, 2 inches).
Nkounkou looks to grow on his impressive season thus far. He has set career-marks in the shot put (39 feet, 2.25 inches) and the javelin (118 feet, 2 inches). During the 2016 America East Indoor Championships, the sophomore ran the heptathlon and finished eighth with 4,508 points. He has one first-place finish on the year in the long jump (20 feet, 20.75 inches) at the first home meet of the season (April 9).
