DURHAM, N.H.- The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team is set for a busy weekend starting Friday, April 1 when several members head to the College of William & Mary for the 51st Colonial Relays. In addition, on Saturday, April 2, some of the team heads to the University of Maine for a tri meet with UMaine and Bates College.
The 2016 Colonial relays are a three-day event from March 31 to April 2 where 50 collegiate programs are invited to participate. A few members for the women's track & field team slated to participate include senior sprinter Lauren Perrodin (Coral Springs, Fla.), senior distance runner Cassie Kruse (Atkinson, N.H.), sophomore distance runner Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt), and junior Alyson Messina (Plymouth, Mass).
Perrodin is scheduled to participate in the women's 100-meter race. Last outdoor season, she placed fifth in the 100-meters at the NEICAAA Outdoor Championship (May 7-9) with a time of 12.00 seconds. Most recently in the indoor season, the senior placed third overall in the 60-meter race (7.64 seconds) at the ECAC Indoor Championships (March 4-6).
Kruse and Purrier are both slated to compete in the women's 800-meter run. At the America East Indoor Championship (Feb. 19-20), Kruse placed fourth in the women's 800-meter with a time of 4:31.93. Last outdoor season, Purrier placed seventh in the women's 3000 meter at the NCAA Divison I Outdoor Track & Field Championships (June 10-13). Most recently, the sophomore finished third overall in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 11-12) with a time of 4:38.42 for All-American honors.
Messina finished fourth at the NEICAAA Outdoor Championships in 2015 in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.64. She is slated to compete in the same event at the 51st Colonial Relays.
