Smith's Last Second Chance Called off in Loss at Dartmouth, 63-62

HANOVER, N.H. – Senior Jaleen Smith (Freeport, Texas) of the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team had a go-ahead three at the buzzer ruled not in time, in a 63-62 loss at Dartmouth College, Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Dartmouth got on the board first with their leading scorer Evan Boudreaux's 3-pointer. Dion matched for three of his eight first-half points. Halfway through the first, Dartmouth held a 19-13 lead, the largest of the game up until that point, when New Hampshire went on a 12-0 run to take a 25-19 lead with six minutes to play. Leissner and Watkins each had four in the stretch. Dartmouth responded with an 8-2 run to tie it at 27 with three minutes to play. The first half ended with a Leissner finish in the paint and a defensive stop for a Wildcat halftime lead of 31-29.
No team led by more than four in the final half. In the final minute, the score was knotted up at 59, the 13th tie in the game. Boudreaux of the Big Green scored the basket for the tie and drilled the free throw after the foul to take a one-point lead. Smith in the next possession went straight at the defensive and knifed into the paint for a bucket off the glass to retake a Wildcat lead. After a missed three by Dartmouth, Watkins grabbed his final rebound of the game and was fouled and put to the line. After hitting the front-end of two to go up two, Dartmouth had a chance in UNH's zone following a timeout with eight seconds to play. After a few high screens, Brendan Barry was alone on the wing with a good 3-point look that dropped for the lead and the game, 63-62.
