The Series: UNH vs. Boston U.
The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team has a 20-19-3 lifetime record against Boston University, but the Terriers have won each of the last 11 meetings. Both teams hold the home ice advantage; UNH is 10-8-2 at home and BU has a 10-8-1 edge. The Terriers have won nine consecutive matchups at Walter Brown Arena.
BU swept last year's season series with a 5-3 win in Durham last November as well as a home-and-home sweep in February (6-4 in Boston; 6-2 in Durham).
UNH's most recent win was Nov. 9, 2012, when the 'Cats prevailed 4-2 at the Whittemore Center. The Wildcats' most recent road win was Feb. 3, 2011 (4-2).
The Series: UNH vs. Quinnipiac
UNH has an 8-3-1 lifetime record against Quinnipiac, but the Bobcats have prevailed each of the past three years with a 6-0 victory last December in Connecticut, a 4-1 win at the Whitt in October 2015 and 2-1 decision at QU in November 2013.
In last year's game, the Bobcats skated to a 4-0 lead in the first period and led 6-0 at the end of two en route to the 6-0 victory. Quinnipiac recorded a 26-7 shot advantage and went 1-1 on the power play. UNH had two power-play chances.
These programs were members of the short-lived ECAC Women's Eastern League in the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons; in those two years, UNH won the six meetings by an aggregate score of 49-4. The teams did not face off again until October 2009, when the 'Cats were 4-0 victors. The only tie occurred February 2011 on QU's home ice.

In the season opener, the Wildcats led 2-0 early in the second period, but the Raiders stormed back with three goals to surge in front and then added an empty-net goal to secure the victory.
Dating back to last season, UNH has lost six consecutive road games. The Wildcats' most recent win away from home was last January, when they swept two games at Maine.
Neither UNH nor the opponent has scored in the first period, and both sides have scored one second-period goal; the opposition has outscored the 'Cats 6-2 in the final frame.
UNH is 1-for-9 (.111) on the power play and a perfect 11 of 11 on the penalty kill.
Career Highs at Colgate
Junior defenseman Julia Fedeski (Algonquin Highlands, Ontario) scored a career-high two goals in the Oct. 1 opener at Colgate; the two points matched a personal best.
Senior forward Jonna Curtis (Elk River, Minn.) equaled her career high of two assists last Saturday.
Sophomore goaltender Kyra Smith (Littleton, Colo.) recorded a career-high 38 saves on 41 shots in the opener for a .927 save percentage.
Hilary Cashin (Fredericton, New Brunswick), another sophomore, also had a personal-best performance with 32 saves on 35 shots in last Sunday's 3-1 loss for a .914 save percentage.
'Cats Shut Out Whitby in Exhibition Game
Amy Schlagel (Blaine, Minn.) recorded a goal and an assist and the goaltending duo of Hilary Cashin and Kyra Smith combined for a shutout to lead the UNH women's ice hockey team to a 2-0 victory in a Sept. 23 exhibition game against the Whitby Jr. Wolves at the Whittemore Center.
UNH recorded the shot advantage all three periods for a final margin of 33-13.
Schlagel gave the 'Cats a 1-0 lead at 17:48 of the first period. Carlee Toews (Grand Prairie, Alberta) tipped in a slapshot by Jenna Rheault (Deering, N.H.) for a power-play goal at 2:49 of the third period.
Cashin was the starter between the pipes and made nine saves in 29:28. Smith played the final 30:32 and made four saves.
Hockey East Preseason Poll
UNH received 45 points to tie the University of Vermont in the Women's Hockey East Coaches' Poll that was released Sept. 20. Defending champion Boston College received six first-place votes and 78 points. Boston U. (72; two), Northeastern (66; one) and UConn (56) also placed ahead of the two 'Cats in the poll. Providence (42), Maine (38) and Merrimack (26) complete the poll.
The Captains
Senior forward Jonna Curtis, junior forward Kate Haslett (Rothesay, New Brunswick) and sophomore defensemen Marie-Jo Pelletier (Dalhousie, New Brunswick) are the captains of the 2016-17 UNH Wildcats.
Curtis led last year's squad in goals (16), assists (17) and points (33), as well as shots (171); in 24 Hockey East league games, the 5-foot-4 forward tallied 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists. Curtis has received Hockey East Honorable Mention recognition each of the last two years (2015, 2016).
Haslett made the transition from defenseman to forward in the ninth game of the 2015-16 season; she scored a goal in her first career game as a center and went on to finish with four goals and five assists for nine points.
Pelletier skated in all 36 games last year as a freshman. She ranked second on the team in blocked shots with 67, and that number ranked third in all of Hockey East. Pelletier tied for second among UNH defensemen in assists with eight; all of her points were recorded on assists.
Young 'Cats
The 2016-17 roster is comprised of 14 letterwinners and seven freshmen with captain Jonna Curtis as the only senior.
The New 'Cats in Town
Seven freshmen join the UNH women's ice hockey program this season with a breakdown of five forwards and two defensemen. Abby Chapman, Nicole Dunbar, Meghara McManus, Carlee Turner and Hannah Touzos will be relied on to produce points as forwards. Tori Howran and Lexie Revkin join the corps of defensemen.
All seven newbies skated both games last weekend at Colgate.
Scouting the Terriers
Boston University (Boston, Mass.) is coming off a 5-2 home win against Providence College on Sept. 25; BU took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission and the Friars twice closed within one goal (2-1, 3-2), but the Terriers scored two goals in the last 90 seconds, including an empty-netter, to secure the win. On special teams, BU went 2-for-9 on the power play and 7 of 7 on the penalty kill.
Samantha Sutherland scored a hat trick one power-play goal. Sammy Davis led the team with three assists, and Victoria Bach was the other Terrier with multiple points on two assists. Goaltender Victoria Hanson stopped 34 of 36 shots for a .944 save percentage.
Scouting the Bobcats
Quinnipiac University (Hamden, Conn.) is coming off a 2-0 weekend against Maine in which the Bobcats won the first game 5-4, and the second 3-0; both teams went 2-for-7 on the power play in the two-game series. Taylar Cianfarano leads the team in goals (three) and points (five). Melissa Samoskevich (2g, 1a) and Meghan Turner (1g, 2a) are close behind. Senior goaltender Sydney Rossman allowed four goals on 36 shots to finish the weekend with a 2.00 GAA and .889 save percentage; she made 17 saves to record her 19th career shutout.
