DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team held its Blue vs. White scrimmage following the football game, to give fans their first chance to see the 2016-17 team, and also welcomed Joe Silvani onto the team in a partnership with the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation.
Tickets for the 2016-17 season are available by calling the box office at 603-862-4000. The team opens the season at home on Friday, Nov. 11 against Lesley College at 7 PM.
Head coach Bill Herrion split up the team into two groups and put them against each other for three 10 minute quarters and then an eight-minute quarter. Senior Jaleen Smith (Freeport, Texas) had a strong showing with nearly 30 points and junior Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) nailed a floater just before the buzzer to secure the win for team Blue.
Following the game was another event in the team's locker room. Four year old Joe Silvani was introduced the team as an official member for the 2016-17 season. Joe lives in the area and has neuroblastoma on his spine and hip. He is excited to spend time with the team and be a Wildcat. He is partnered with the Friends of Jaclyn program who aims to improve the quality of life for children battling pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers by pairing them with local high school and college sports teams.
