The Series: UNH vs. Boston College
The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team has a 46-18-5 lifetime record against Boston College, but the Eagles have won nine consecutive games in the series and that includes last year's three-game series sweep (6-0 and 6-1 at BC, 3-0 at UNH); the season series was completed Nov. 14, 2015. BC has a 15-3-2 edge the past 20 games dating back to February 2010.
UNH's most recent victory was 3-1 at Conte Forum on Oct. 16, 2013. The Wildcats' most recent win on home ice was Oct. 20, 2012 (4-3); since then the Eagles have won five straight matchups at the Whitt.
The Series: UNH vs. Merrimack College
UNH has a 2-1-0 lifetime record against Merrimack College, which played its first season as a Division I program just last year. The Warriors won the inaugural meeting, 2-1, last October at Lawler Rink despite UNH's 35-12 shot advantage. New Hampshire swept last December's home-and-home series with a 4-1 home win and 2-1 overtime victory on the road.
In the only meeting at the Whittemore Center, Jonna Curtis and Taylor Wenczkowski scored two goals apiece to propel the Wildcats to the 4-1 win. The Wildcats, who recorded a 37-15 shot advantage, took a 1-0 lead on Wenczkowski's goal with 53 seconds left in the first period. Curtis' first goal extended the advantage to 2-0 at 16:15 of the middle stanza and Wenczkowski struck again at 2:19 of the final frame to push the lead to 3-0. MC closed within two goals at 8:22. Curtis secured the victory by scoring an empty-net goal with 69 seconds remaining. UNH goaltender Kyra Smith made 14 saves while Merrimack counterpart Samantha Ridgewell stopped 33 shots.
In the most recent meeting, UNH prevailed 2-1 in overtime when Amy Schlagel scored at 2:04 of the extra session. The 'Cats generated a 57-24 shot advantage.

The State of New Hampshire
UNH enters the weekend with an 0-4-0 overall record that includes 0-1-0 at home and 0-1-0 in Hockey East; Friday night's game vs. Boston College will be the first home league game of the season. Last Friday, the Wildcats opened Hockey East play with a 5-1 loss at (then) No. 9 Boston University. One day later, the 'Cats skated to a scoreless tie through two periods against (then) No. 3 Quinnipiac University, but the Bobcats struck three times in the third period, including an empty-net goal, to record a 3-0 victory.
UNH opened the season with a two-game series at Colgate University and returned to the Granite State with 4-2 and 3-1 losses.
Extended Homestand
New Hampshire began its six-game homestand last Saturday against Quinnipiac. Following this weekend's games, the Wildcats play host to Clarkson University for a two-game series (Oct. 22-23) and the close out the month vs. Vermont on the 28th.
Today's Special is PK
UNH is 19-for-20 on the penalty kill, which calculates to a .950 success rate. The opponent's PK is 15 of 16 (93.8%). With those numbers, both sides' PK has dominated special teams.

Sophomore goaltenders Kyra Smith and Hilary Cashin have alternated starts this season. Smith recorded a career-high 38 saves in the season-opening 4-2 loss at Colgate; one of the goals was an empty netter. Smith stopped 36 shots of 41 shots at nationally-ranked Boston University. In two games, she has a 4.05 GAA and .902 save percentage.
Cashin, who saw limited action in three games last season, has a 2.55 GAA and .907 save percentage in two games. She made a personal-best 32 saves (on 35 shots) in her first game of the season, a 3-1 loss at Colgate (Oct. 2). Cashin held the high-scoring Quinnipiac University squad scoreless through two periods and finished with 17 saves (two goals allowed).
Career Firsts
Freshman forward Meghara McManus and freshman defenseman Lexie Revkin both recorded their first career point with an assist on the same goal, a first-period tally by Carlee Toews at Boston University on Oct. 7.
Young 'Cats
The 2016-17 roster is comprised of 14 returning letterwinners and seven freshmen with captain Jonna Curtis as the only senior.
Scoring Leaders
Junior defenseman Julia Fedeski has a team-high two goals and is tied with both Jonna Curtis and Carlee Toews for the team lead in points, also with two. Curtis has a team-best two assists while Toews is the only 'Cat with both a goal and an assist.
Block That Shot
Junior defenseman Amy Schlagel and sophomore blue liner Jenna Rheault rank 1-2 in blocked shots with 11 and 10, respectively. Freshmen Tori Howran and Lexie Revkin follow at 9 and 8.
The New 'Cats in Town
Seven freshmen join the UNH women's ice hockey program this season with a breakdown of five forwards and two defensemen. Abby Chapman, Nicole Dunbar, Meghara McManus, Carlee Turner and Hannah Touzos will be relied on to produce points as forwards. Tori Howran and Lexie Revkin join the corps of defensemen.
All seven newbies skated both games last weekend at Colgate.
Scouting the Eagles

In the most recent game, Maine jumped out to an early 1-0 lead but the Eagles battled back and scored five unanswered goals. Delaney Belinskas scored four of the five BC goals with two on the power play. On special teams, BC went 3-for-8 on the power play and a perfect 6 of 6 on the penalty kill. Eagles' goaltender Katie Burt made 17 saves on 18 shots.
Belinskas leads BC in goals and points with five, while Megan Keller sits atop the leaderboard in assists with four. Caitrin Lonergan also has five points on three goals and two assists. Burt has a 2.67 GAA and .889 save percentage.

Merrimack College (North Andover, Mass.) has a 1-3-0 overall record with all four games on the road against non-conference opponents. Last weekend, the Warriors traveled to Colgate and returned home with 4-3 ant 6-0 losses. Merrimack opened the season with a 4-2 loss and 4-1 win at St. Cloud State. The (road) Warriors play at Maine on Friday afternoon before facing off vs. UNH on Saturday.
MC is coming off a 6-0 loss against Colgate on Oct. 8. Colgate opened up the scoring midway through the first period and never slowed down, scoring goals in all three periods. Merrimack went 0-for-3 on the power play and 5 of 6 on the penalty kill. Warriors' goaltender Lea-Kristine Demers made 33 saves.
Merrimack is led in goals and points by Katelyn Rae with six points, all on goals. Mikyla Grant-Mentis holds the team lead in assists with four, and Demers leads all Merrimack goaltenders with a 3.77 GAA and .894 save percentage.
MC has been outscored in the first (5-1) and second (7-2) periods but has a 6-3 edge in the third. The Warriors have already faced 26 shorthanded situations – that's 6.5 power player per game for the opposition.
