Men’s Cross Country Collects Second Place at Home to Begin the Season

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Brendan McCarthy (Mansfield, Mass.) finished seventh overall to propel the University of New Hampshire men's cross country team to a second-place finish in the only home meet of the season, Saturday morning.
The three-team meet, ran on a 5K course, also featured Providence College and the College of the Holy Cross. Providence placed first overall with 15 points while Holy Cross placed third with 69 points.
McCarthy led all Wildcat runners with a 16 minute, 1.77 second finish and freshman Matthew Geraci (Honeoye-Falls, N.Y.) finished shortly after for eighth place (16:02.49).
Sophomore Timothy Kenefick (Guilford, Conn.) completed the 5K in 16:16.19 for 12th overall followed by freshman Cody Symonds (Alton, N.H.) with a 16:19:66, 13th-place effort.
The final three UNH scoring times were from junior Ryan Chiesa (Stockholm, N.J.) – 14th (16:22.69) – junior Mitchell Dutton (Salem, N.H.) – 18th (16:29.08) – and sophomore Neil Mistretta (Durham, N.H.) – 21st (16:32.94).
New Hampshire competes next Saturday (Sept. 12) at Stony Brook University for the Pre-Conference Meet.
