
Women's Track & Field Ranks Third After Day One of America East Championships

NEW YORK -- Senior Chelsey Serrano (Raymond, N.H.) placed first overall in the 5,000-meter run to lead the University of New Hampshire women's indoor track & field team to a third place finish after day one of the America East Championships on Friday at the Armory.
With 30 points, the Wildcats trail the University at Albany (57) and Binghamton University (38). The University of Vermont is tied with UNH. The remainder of the field consists of Stony Brook University (29), the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, University of Maine (14), University of Massachusetts Lowell (six) and University of Hartford (one).
Serrano paced the field with a career-best and IC4A/ECAC time of 17.07.52 in the event, 12.44 seconds ahead of the next finisher.
Senior Virginia Lavallee (Kingston, N.H.) competed in the pentathlon. She started by earning a qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 8.92 seconds. Lavallee then competed in the women's high jump with a cleared height of 5-02.25 to rank sixth in the event. She followed up by registering a 31-03.75 in the shot put, good for fifth place. After an eighth place mark in the long jump (15-10.25), she concluded her day with third place time of 2:27.46 in the 800-meter run. She finished fifth in the pentathlon, racking up 3,343 points.
Freshman Kari Murnane (Byram, N.J.) highlighted New Hampshire in the pole vault, launching herself to a three-way tie of 10-04.00, good for seventh place.
Junior Lauren Perrodin (Coral Springs, Fla.) joined the list of qualifiers in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.53 seconds.
Alyson Messina (Plymouth, Mass.) paced the Wildcats in the 400-meter dash, clocking in 10th for a time of 59.19.
Danielle Gajewski (Danville, N.H.) earned a qualifying time for tomorrow's action in the 500-meter dash as the freshman crossed the finish line in 1:16.16
The women's distance medley relay quartet of Amanda Szymanski (Londonderry, N.H.), Rachel DePalma (Orange, Conn.), Brittany Hunt (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Alexandria Giese (Franklin, Mass.) engineered a fifth place time of 12:09.03.
UNH capped off the day with three finishers in the top-10 in the 800-meter run. Trailing Lavallee, freshman Emma Checovich (North Hampton, N.H.) was on the heels of Lavalle, notching a fourth place time of 2:27.83. Junior Taylor Ordway (Plaistow, N.H.) rounded out the New Hampshire trio, clocking in at 2:27.83.
