Leissner and Defense Lift Men’s Basketball Over Dartmouth, 76-56

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to give the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team a 76-56 team win against Dartmouth College, Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium.
UNH increased their non-conference record to 7-4 overall while Dartmouth fell to 3-6.
Leissner scored 6 of 9 shots from the field and nailed 2 of 3 attempts from 3-point range. Senior Ronnel Jordan (San Antonio, Texas) tallied a career-high 17 points on 7 of 11 shooting. Junior Jacoby Armstrong (Sachse, Texas) finished with 12 points and six rebounds in 20 minutes of action. Sophomore Iba Camara (Dakar, Senegal) was one point shy of a double-double with 12 rebounds and nine points.
The Wildcat defense limited the Big Green offensively, only allowing one double-digit scorer in Guilien Smith (12 points). Dartmouth shot 16 of 57 (28.1 percent) from the field and 6 of 20 (30 percent) from beyond the arc.
Dartmouth held a 5-4 lead early in the game before UNH rattled off 12 straight points on Leissner's five, Camara's four and three points from junior Joe Bramanti (Andover, Mass.). The Wildcats led 16-5 with 12:36 to play. The Big Green's Smith would hit seven of the next nine points to narrow the deficit to 20-14 with 8:47 left in the first.
The Wildcats closed out the half on a 16-5 run to lead 36-19 at the break. The 3-pointer was falling in the final run led by freshman Pat McNamara (Arlington Heights, Ill.) who buried back-to-back treys to start the scoring. Junior Daniel Dion (Cedar Park, Texas) and Armstrong each nailed a three as well.
The second half was more Wildcat offense as they rattled off an 8-1 stretch to lead 44-20 with 15:31 to play, the largest lead of the contest. Dartmouth would come as close as 15 in the final frame on two free throws by Cameron Smith.
New Hampshire has a quick turnaround when they travel to Boston University on Monday, Dec. 21 (7 p.m.) with two games remaining on the non-conference bracket. The Wildcats return home to open conference play against Binghamton University on Saturday, Jan. 9 (1 p.m.) and kick off the 2016 year.
