Men's Hoops Drops A Heartbreaker to UAlbany, 64-62

DURHAM, N.H. - Sophomore guard Daniel Dion (Cedar Park, Texas) finished with 17 points as the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team fell, 64-62, to the University at Albany, Tuesday night at Lundholm Gymnasium.
UNH drops to 6-8 overall and 0-2 in the America East Conference, while UAlbany improves to 7-7, 2-0 AE.
Tied at 62 apiece, the Great Danes' Sam Rowley buried a hook shot in the paint with one second remaining to pull ahead by two, and give Albany it's go ahead bucket for the win.
Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) was one rebound shy of his second career double-double, with 12 points (3-for-7 shooting) and nine rebounds. Jacoby Armstrong (Sachse, Texas) recorded eight points (2 of 7) and buried four free throws.
Peter Hooley led the way for the Great Danes totalling 17 points (5-for-11) with six free throws. Ray Sanders recorded 15 points and eight boards and Evan Singletary scored 14 (4 of 9).
Albany dominated the paint scoring 22 points to UNH's six. The Great Danes recorded 15 points off the Wildcats' 15 turnovers on the night. UAlbany nailed 3-pointers at a 46.2 clip (6-for-13) and shot 18 of 21 at the line.
UNH outscored the opponent bench 12 to 5, besting their opponents in the last nine games in that category. The Wildcats shot 46 percent on field goals (11 of 24) on the night and 15-for-18 from the line.
New Hampshire trailed 34-29 at the break as Albany opened the second half scoring with baskets from Hooley and Singletary.
UNH narrowed the deficit to 41-40, with 15:44 showing, on a 11-3 run sparked by a Leissner trey.
Albany rattled off a 9-1 run immediately after pulling ahead 50-41 with just over 12 minutes to go, capped off by a Greig Stire layup in the lane.
With just under 5 minutes remaining down 56-53, Dion nailed a 3-pointer to tie it up. On the next possession, the sophomore got a layup to drop to give UNH its first lead (58-56) of the contest.
UNH and UAlbany traded baskets till 49 seconds was showing on the clock all tied up at 62.
There were four ties and two lead changes, all under five minutes to play.
Albany jumped out to a 11-5 lead to start the game, sparked by a Peter Hooley 3-pointer at the start. The Great Danes never led by more than seven points in the opening stanza. A three ball by Singletary cemented the first half score at 34-29.
