Pogue Has Career Afternoon as Women's Basketball Upends Daniel Webster College, 84-32

DURHAM. N.H. -- Freshman center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) set career-highs in points (24), rebounds (11) and steals (four) to lift the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to an 84-32 victory over Daniel Webster College on Sunday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium.
UNH improves its overall record to 5-2 and now has won-back-to-back games.
Senior guard Ariel Gaston (Toledo, Ohio) recorded 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting to go along with four rebounds. Junior guard Elizabeth Belanger (Acton, Mass.) finished the afternoon with 16 points and six rebounds.
Daniel Webster was led by 10 points from freshman guard Nicole Beard. Junior guard Ashley England bolstered the offense with nine points.
The Wildcats finished the game shooting 35 of 72 (.486) from the field and held the Eagles to just 12 field goals made out if 46 attempts (.286). UNH posted its largest margin of victory (52) and held its opponent to a season-low.
New Hampshire outrebounded Daniel Webster by a 53-18 margin. The Wildcats also scored 14 points on the fastbreak. UNH posted season-highs in scoring (84), rebounds (53), assists (17) and steals (19).
There were five lead changes to start the game with UNH taking the lead permanently 3 minutes, 43 seconds into the half on a layup by senior forward Kaylee Kilpatrick (Saint John, New Brunswick). Kilpatrick finished the night with six points and five rebounds.
UNH engineered a 19-0 run in the first half pushing the lead to 26-8 at the 7:42 mark, powered by six points from Gaston.
The 'Cats rattled off another lengthy run, tallying 13 consecutive points until freshman guard Escarlin Raynoso nailed a jumper to break the run with 19 seconds remaining in the first half. Belanger retaliated with a layup for UNH to give the home team a 45-19 lead with seven seconds left. However, Beard buried a 3-pointer from the top of the arc as the Eagles trailed the Wildcats 45-22 at halftime.
The Wildcats began the second frame on a 10-0 run with Belanger recording four points.
The 'Cats travel to Boston College for its next match Sunday, Dec. 14 (4 p.m.).
