RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Cari Reed (Oswego, N.Y.) poured in a team-best 13 points and Denise Beliveau (Framingham, Mass.) recorded 12 points and pulled in eight rebounds, but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell to Manhattan College, 68-51, Friday night at Draddy Gymnasium.

With the win Manhattan earns its third straight victory, improving to 4-2 on the season, while the Wildcats drop to 1-5.

Reed tallied her 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including a 3-for-5 mark from deep. As for Beliveau, it was the third straight game she has scored in double-digits. She finished with a team-high two steals and her eight rebounds were also a team best.

Reed got things started for New Hampshire, scoring the game's first basket on a layup that helped the 'Cats jump out to an early 6-4 lead with 18:00 remaining in the first frame.

Manhattan picked up some steam when Monica Roeder banged in a 3-pointer that set off a 16-4 run by the Lady Jaspers that lasted about six minutes, giving the home team a 20-10 advantage with 11:05 remaining.

The Wildcats would bite back following a bucket by Nadia Peters, as Kate Early (Corning, N.Y.) sank a layup and Reed delivered a baseline trifecta, igniting a 12-5 run that lasted just over five minutes, cutting the lead to just three points. Early and Reed combined for nine points during the stretch.

Despite New Hampshire's comeback effort, the Lady Jaspers converted two baskets including a 3-pointer from Lindse Loutsenhizer in the closing moments of the first stanza to give Manhattan a 30-22 lead at the break.

New Hampshire kept up its pace at the start of the second frame, with Jill McDonald (Middlebury, Vt.) sinking a layup and Reed canning a three on back-to-back possessions to cut the score to 32-27 with 18:16 remaining.

Schyanne Halfkenny quickly answered the call for the Lady Jaspers, drilling a 3-pointer of her own moments later, setting off a 21-6 run by Manhattan that lasted nearly eight minutes, putting the home team up, 53-33, with 9:32 remaining.

The Wildcats would respond with a 7-3 run that included a Beliveau trifecta, but it wasn't enough, as Manhattan controlled the action the rest of the way, building its lead up to as many as 24 to preserve the win.

Abby Wentworth led Manhattan with a game-high 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Peters added 12 points and a team-high eight boards.

The Wildcats return to action on Friday, Dec. 10 (7 p.m.) when they take on Harvard University at Lavietes Pavilion.
