Casey Carroll, a 1994 graduate, enters his 27th year of coaching at the University of New Hampshire. For the last three years he has worked primarily with the men’s distance, middle distance, sprinters and hurdlers. Last year’s campaign proved to be very successful as he guided the men’s cross-country teams to two podium finishes at championship meets: 3rd at America East and 3rd at New Englands. Last Spring he also helped guide the men’s outdoor track and field team to a 2nd place finish at the New England Championship. Under his tutelage, the relay teams have flourished with wins in the 4x800m relay at the New England Championship (2023 and 2024), the Distance Medley Relay at the America East Championship (2024) and the IC4A Championship (2023 and 2024). He has also coached several school records in events ranging from the 110m hurdles, 400m, Mile and the 4x1500m Relay.
For 23 years he served as the head coach of the women’s track and field team primarily coaching the sprints, jumps, hurdles and the combined events. The 2011 outdoor season was historic with the Lady Wildcats winning the overall team New England Outdoor Collegiate Track and Field Championship. Team-wise, they also finished 2nd six times and 3rd three times for a total of ten podium finishes. Carroll was also named New England Outdoor Coach of the Year in 2008. In the conference, he has been on the America East Coaching Staff of the Year 13 times and led the team to 18 podium finishes. During his time as the women’s head track and field coach, the team set new school records in 38 different indoor and outdoor events. He is a USATF Level II certified coach in all track and field disciplines.
While a student-athlete at UNH, Carroll spent four years as a member of the track and field and cross-country programs. As a distance runner, he was captain for two years. He was a top 10 finisher at the North Atlantic Conference Cross-Country Championships and a scorer in the 5000 meters at the Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Post-college, Carroll has gone on to win the Maine Marathon (2003) and four New Hampshire Marathons (2013, 2014, 2016, 2018). In addition to his Psychology degree at UNH, he received his Master of Science degree in Psychology of Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Oregon in 1998.
