BOSTON – Senior captain Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario) and freshman Emily Coughlin (Marshfield, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire field hockey team were named Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, by America East on Tuesday.
Poulakis scored three goals, including the game-winning tally with 2:02 left in the fourth quarter, to lead UNH to a 7-6 victory at Boston University on Sept. 28. Poulakis matched her career high of three goals with the hat trick and the six points marked a season high.
The senior captain's first goal of the game was a redirection off a shot on a penalty corner that tied the game, 3-3 at 16:43.
With UNH trailing 4-3 in the third quarter, Poulakis advanced past two defenders on the right endline and lifted a shot across the goalmouth inside the far post to tie the score, 4-4, at 34:18 and spark a 3-0 run by the Wildcats.
She gave the 'Cats a 7-6 lead when she completed the hat trick at 57:58 by redirecting a centering pass into the cage.
Poulakis extended her goal streak to three games and point streak to five with her three-goal effort.
It is the third conference Offensive Player of the Week award for Poulakis, who was feted once in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
Coughlin gave UNH a 2-1 lead at BU when she scored off a rebound in front of the cage at 9:27. It was her third goal of the season.
New Hampshire returns to action Oct. 3 (3 pm) for its America East opener at the University of Vermont in a rematch of last year's conference championship game.
The Wildcats' next home game is Sunday, Oct. 5 (1 pm) against Stonehill.
