Freshman recorded 47 kills, 22 digs and 10 blocks in opening weekend of college career
BOSTON – Lucy Chertock (Danville, Calif.), a freshman on the UNH volleyball team, was named the America East Player of the Week and the America East Rookie of the Week following her impressive opening weekend as a Wildcat.
On Aug. 29, Chertock contributed seven kills, seven digs, two blocks and was a steady presence in the back row as UNH swept Holy Cross in straight sets.
In Saturday's five-set thriller versus Saint Peter's, Chertock exploded for a match-high 21 kills, adding eight digs and four blocks. Her clutch hitting in sets four and five helped UNH rally for the win. She capped the weekend with 19 kills and seven digs in another five-set victory, helping UNH overcome a 2-1 deficit to defeat Northeastern and remain unbeaten.
UNH takes on New Haven tonight at 7 p.m. in Lundholm Gym in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
In her collegiate debut weekend, Chertock made an immediate and dominant impact for UNH (3-0), leading the Wildcats to a perfect 3-0 record at the Holly Young Invitational. Across three matches, the outside hitter totaled 47 kills, 22 digs and 10 blocks.The 2025 collegiate volleyball season kicked off last week and four of the six #AEVB programs earned non-conference wins, highlighted by a 3-0 start for defending champion New Hampshire.
