UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The UNH volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision to host and fifth-ranked Penn State on Sunday afternoon at Rec Hall, falling 25-11, 25-15, 25-20 in the final game of the Penn State Invitational.

The Wildcats (4-2) were led offensively by senior Millie Grove (Warrington, Pa.), who tallied six kills on 11 swings for a .455 hitting percentage. Junior Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) chipped in six kills and added three blocks, while freshman Lucy Chertock (Danville, Calif.) posted a team-high 10.5 points with 10 kills and a block assist.
Set 1: Penn State 25, UNH 11
•UNH struggled to find rhythm early as the Nittany Lions (3-3) opened the match on a 9-1 run behind strong serving from Ava Falduto and efficient attacking from Emmi Sellman.
•The Wildcats were limited to a .083 hitting percentage in the frame, with senior Meredith Hohnbaum (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Grier each recording a kill to stop the bleeding.
•Chertock added two kills late, but Penn State closed the set with a service ace and a block to take the opener.
Set 2: Penn State 25, UNH 15
•The Wildcats showed more fight in the second set, with Grove and Chertock combining for five kills.
•Senior Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) dished out eight assists in the set, helping the 'Cats hit .154.
•Five UNH service errors and a pair of aces from Kennedy Martin helped Penn State pull away midway through the set.
•A late kill from Hohnbaum gave UNH its 15th point before the Nittany Lions closed it out on a kill from Martin.
Set 3: Penn State 25, UNH 20
•The Wildcats put together their strongest effort in the third, jumping out to a 4-1 lead behind kills from Chertock, Grove and Hohnbaum.
•The set featured two ties and UNH's only leads of the match, including a 9-5 advantage on a Chertock kill set up by Shattles.
•Grier and senior Lindsey Kriendler (Houston, Texas) each added kills, and the Wildcats hit a match-best .294.
•The Nittany Lions responded with a late 6-2 run, capped by a kill from Caroline Jurevicius, to seal the sweep.
•UNH finished the match hitting .190 as a team with 27 kills and 23 digs. Shattles led the way with 20 assists, while senior Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.) added six digs and two assists.

•The Wildcats continue their road trip at the Rutgers Invitational on Sept. 12-13 at Jersey Mike's Arena in Piscataway, N.J. UNH faces Saint Francis on Friday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. before meeting the host Scarlet Knights later that day at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 13, UNH meets Rider at 1 p.m.
