- UNH returns to action Sept. 19 (12 p.m.) at Rutgers University.
- The Wildcats' next home game is Sept. 21 (1 p.m.) against intrastate rival Dartmouth College for Alumni Day.
COACH'S QUIPS – UNH head coach Robin Balducci
"We had lots of good opportunities. We finally have been scoring on corners. We hadn't gotten much out of corners. Overall, we've been possessing because we're an excellent passing team, but now we're finally getting shots, getting balls to goal.
"Our three strikers – Tas, Nicole and Kat – and Faye through the middle are very dangerous, both combined and individually."
FIRST QUARTER
- van Benten gave PC a 1-0 lead 1:11 into the game when she redirected Ari Ftorek's centering pass into the open cage.
- On Providence's first corner of the game, Macie Pennisi's shot from the top of the circle was kicked aside by Johnson's right leg pad.
SECOND QUARTER
- UNH outscored the Friars 2-1 in the second quarter to level the score, 2-2, through 30 minutes.
- The Wildcats leveled the score, 1-1, at 17:14 when senior captain Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario) intercepted a pass outside the attacking 25-yard line and carried the ball to the top of the circle. Her pass to the right side was one-timed by Cookman across the circle to Knuttel, who swept the ball into the cage at the left doorstep.
- Martina put the home team back in front, 2-1, at 24:26.
- On a UNH corner, MacNeil inserted a pass to the top of the circle, where Cookman stopped the ball for Swaan and her low drive hit Porter but went inside the left post to forge a 2-2 tie at 25:23.
THIRD QUARTER
- PC recorded a 4-3 shot advantage in the third quarter, but it was New Hampshire that scored the only goal of the quarter to take its first lead of the game.
- UNH's corner battery of MacNeil and Cookman once again set up a direct shot by Swaan, who this time blasted a shot inside the right post at 41:48.
FOURTH QUARTER
- UNH controlled play with a 7-4 shot advantage in the fourth quarter, but the Friars scored the only goal to force overtime.
- PC converted a corner into Talarico's game-tying goal on a shot from the middle of the circle at 48:47.
- Charlotte Lorden gained possession outside the attacking 25, entered the top of the circle and stuck a low, hard shot that Johnson kicked away with Lily Procaccianti cutting in front looking for a redirection.
- With three minutes left, Poulakis' diagonal shot from the right side went wide of the far post and just out of the reach for a redirection by Knuttel, who was alone near the left doorstep.
- The 'Cats generated another corner with two minutes left, and Knuttel's rising shot from the top of the circle was blockered aside by Porter.
OVERTIME
- UNH scored on the first shot of the first 10-minute sudden-victory extra session to record the victory.
- Poulakis raced in to intercept a pass 35 yards out on the right wing and kept the ball inbounds. As she approached the circle, Poulakis' pass split a pair of defenders to the middle of the circle, where Knuttel settled the ball, maneuvered around the charging Porter and pushed the ball into the open cage to end the game at 60:52.
