'Cats Edged 2-1 by 12th-Ranked Boston U.

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Alyson Hush (Scarborough, Ontario) scored her eighth goal of the season but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team fell to 12th-ranked Boston University on Friday night by a score of 2-1 at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex.
Sophomore goaltender Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made 18 saves.
Senior Marina Alvarez (Center Moriches, N.Y.) and graduate assistant captain Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) each recorded an assist on the goal scored by Hush.
Christina Vote and Maggie Hanzel each scored a goal for the Terriers, while goalie Callie Shanahan made 21 saves.
UNH moves to 15-15-1 overall and 11-13-0 in Hockey East while BU is now 21-9-1, 18-5-1.

FIRST PERIOD
- The Wildcats' best chance to score in the first period came when captain Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario), Maddie Crowley-Cahill (Haverhill, Mass.) and Truter took a combined four shots on goal in a 20-second span of the sixth minute.
- The Terriers struck first at 17:43 when Vote received a pass at center ice, skated all the way to the crease and maneuvered around Blair to score on the glove side of the net.
- Both teams took nine shots in the opening 20 minutes.
SECOND PERIOD
- At 11:30, Hanzel scored the Terriers' second goal from the blue line on a shot that fluttered into the stick side of the net.
- UNH outshot BU in the second stanza, 8-5.
THIRD PERIOD
- The Wildcats got on the board at 7:32 when Hush scored off a rebound from the previous shot by Alvarez from the slot. Truter, who moved the puck to Alvarez from behind the net, was also credited with an assist.
- BU had a 5-on-3 power play for 79 seconds at 8:45, but New Hampshire's penalty kill limited the Terriers to one shot on goal.
- Truter nearly tied the game at 14:05 when she beat Shanahan but the puck ricocheted off the pipe.
- Trailing 2-1 and on another penalty kill, the Wildcats elected to go with an empty net at 18:15.
- UNH sustained possession in the attack zone but was unable to get a shot through to Shanahan.
- The Terriers nearly scored on the empty net at 19:51, but Callista Printz (Buffalo, N.Y.) recorded a huge block to keep the game within one score and kill the penalty.
- BU recorded a 6-5 shot advantage in the final frame.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Hush scored her team-leading fifth power-play goal.
- Truter has a team-high 12 assists this season.
- Alvarez recorded her 10th assist to take sole possession of third place on UNH's leaderboard.
- Andi Calderone (Kirkland, Quebec) finished with a team-high three blocks.
- Shea Verrier (Reading, Mass.) led the 'Cats with nine faceoff wins on a .750 win percentage (9 of 12).
- Each of UNH's last seven games and 15 of 31 games overall have been decided by one goal.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UNH finished with a 22-20 shot advantage.
- BU had a 21-15 edge in faceoffs.
- The Wildcats recorded 13 blocks, while the Terriers had nine.
