COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –Sophomore goalkeeper Abby Johnson (Walpole, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday.

It is the second accolade of the week for Johnson, who was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Johnson stopped 17 of 18 shots to backstop New Hampshire to road wins against UAlbany, 3-0, on Oct. 24 and Lafayette College, 2-1, on Oct. 26 with a .944 save percentage and 0.50 GAA.

Johnson made eight saves to record her first shutout of the season – fourth career – at UAlbany. She made three stops when the Great Danes had four successive penalty corners in the 29th minute to preserve UNH's 1-0 lead.

Two days later, Johnson followed that with a nine-save effort at Lafayette. She made three saves in the first quarter and four more in the second to keep the score tied 0-0 heading into halftime.

Johnson ranks No. 15 in the nation with a conference-leading 6.57 saves per game.

UNH, which is 5-1 the past six games, plays its regular-season finale Oct. 30 (3pm) against Bryant University at Memorial Field. Six Wildcat seniors will be honored before the game.
