Martinez Stops 29 Shots in 4-0 Loss to #12 BC

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Sophomore goaltender Noemi Martinez (Glen Ridge, N.J.) made 29 saves but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was defeated 4-0 by 12th-ranked Boston College at Conte Forum on Tuesday night.
Martinez had an even split of 10 saves in the first period, 10 in the second and nine in the third.
BC goalie Grace Campbell made 31 saves. Molly Jordan (one goal, one assist) and Lauren Glaser (two assists) recorded multiple points for the Eagles. Kate Ham, Julia Pellerin and Gaby Roy each scored a goal.
UNH moves to 10-11-1 overall and 6-9-0 in Hockey East while BC is now 14-6-1, 11-4-1.

FIRST PERIOD
- UNH generated a 15-11shot advantage in the opening 20 minutes but trailed 1-0 at the first intermission.
- Jordan gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead at 5:16 when she dropped the puck in the slot for Lauren Glaser, whose shot deflected off Jordan inside the right post.
- Midway through the first period, Kelly Harty (Billerica, Mass.) led a rush down the left wing. A one-time from the faceoff dot by Brooke Hammer (Commerce Township, Mich.) was stopped by Campbell, who also denied Shea Verrier (Reading, Mass.) on the rebound at the right doorstep.
- In the 13th minute, the initial screened shot from the right point by Callista Printz (Buffalo, N.Y.) was stopped by Campbell and then Harty shoveled the rebound from the low slot over the crossbar.
- With five minutes left in the first period, Julia Cabral (Lee, N.H.) corralled a loose puck in the left corner and slipped a pass to Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario), who was denied in front.
- In the 19th minute, Juodikis gathered the puck at the right post and attempted the jam the puck into the cage but was turned away by Campbell.
SECOND PERIOD
- BC recorded a 12-9 shot advantage and scored twice in the second stanza.
- Martinez stopped the initial shot by Jade Arnone from the right circle but Ham scored off the rebound to extend the lead to 2-0 at 4:08.
- At 7:40 of the second period, Sara Boucher (Burlington, Ontario) snapped a shot deep in the right circle that ricocheted high off Campbell, landed in the crease and was pushed wide of the post.
- Ham had a breakaway through the neutral zone with 9:30 on the clock but Martinez made the glove save to keep the 'Cats within two goals.
- In the 13th minute, Ham corralled a lead pass at the blue line for another breakaway down the slot. Ham pulled the puck to her forehand but Martinez extended her right leg to made the save.
- Roy scored from the top of the crease to give the home team a 3-0 lead at 16:04.
THIRD PERIOD
- The Eagles recorded a 10-7 shot advantage and scored a power-play goal in the final frame.
- Pellerin's power-play goal capped the scoring at 5:27.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Martinez's total of 29 saves was one less than her career high of 30 established Nov. 2 at Northeastern University.
- Sydney Leonard (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) was a perfect 9-for-9 in the faceoff circle.
- Juodikis led all skaters with 10 faceoff wins.
- Sadie Makokis (St. Albert, Alberta) recorded a team-high two blocks.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- BC finished with a 33-31 shot advantage.
- UNH had a 29-21 edge in the faceoff circle.
- The Eagles went 1-for-2 on the power play while the 'Cats did not have a power play opportunity.
- UNH blocked four shot attempts and BC had nine blocks.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- UNH has a 53-33-7 lifetime record against BC.
- The Wildcats had won each of the last two meetings and was unbeaten (3-0-1) the previous four matchups against the Eagles.
