UNH Falls to #6 Iowa, 5-0

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of New Hampshire field hockey team goalkeeping duo of Abby Johnson (Walpole, Mass.) and Kerigan Ross (Baltimore, Md.) combined to make three saves in Friday afternoon's 5-0 loss to sixth-ranked University of Iowa at Grant Field.
Johnson, the reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, made one save and surrendered four goals in 40 minutes, 24 seconds. She exited 10:24 into the third quarter, then reentered 1:52 into the fourth quarter to face a penalty stroke, and immediately exited again. Ross was credited with two saves in 19:36.
Iowa goalie Mia Magnotta made four saves. Hannah Maney, Milly Short, Dionne van Aalsum, Alex Wesneski and Jacey Wittel each scored a goal for the Hawkeyes.
UNH is now 2-3 and Iowa improved to 3-1.

FIRST QUARTER
- Iowa recorded a 2-1 advantage in both shots and penalty corners in the scoreless opening 15 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER
- With the game still tied at 0-0, UNH generated pressure in the 23rd minute. The initial shot by Addison MacNeil (Brentwood, N.H.) was blocked. Her second shot was stopped by Magnotta but resulted in a corner. MacNeil once again put a shot on goal, but once again Magnotta made the save.
- Maney finally broke the scoreless tie at 25:41 and Wesneski scored off a corner with 20 seconds remaining in the first half to give Iowa a 2-0 lead.
THIRD QUARTER
- van Aalsum scored on the first shot of the third quarter to give Iowa a 3-0 lead at 32:33.
- In the 39th minute, a shot by Kathelijne Knuttel (Groningen, Netherlands) was turned aside by Magnotta.
- Ross entered the game in goal with 4:36 on the clock and did not face a shot on goal before the quarter ended.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Ross made her first save of the game at 46:40 when she stopped van Aalsum's shot.
- The Hawkeyes were awarded a penalty stroke moments later and Short sent a shot past Johnson for a 4-0 lead at 46:52.
- In the 49th minute, Ross made the initial save but Wittel scored off the rebound to extend the advantage to 5-0.
- UNH earned a corner in the 55th minute. MacNeil's initial shot was blocked and led to another corner, but this time the Wildcats did not generate a shot.
- Neither team recorded a shot the rest of the way.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Johnson, who shut out each of the last two opponents, had her shutout streak end at in 165 minutes, 15 seconds.
- MacNeil recorded four of the team's six shots and half of UNH's four shots on goal
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
