MERION STATION, Pa. – Junior goalkeeper Kerigan Ross (Baltimore, Md.) recorded a career-high 14 saves but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was upended by 11^th-ranked UConn, 5-0, in Saturday's neutral-site game at Ellen Ryan Field on the campus of Saint Joseph's University.

Ross, who made 12 saves Friday against 20^th-ranked Saint Joseph's, made 12 saves after halftime with a split of six in both the third and fourth quarters.

Senior back Abigail Johnson (Oxford, Pa.) was credited with a defensive save.

Lucy Zich scored two goals to lead UConn's offense. Fien Hollander, Olivia Machiavelli and Abby Davidson each scored a goal, and Natalie McKenna was not credited with a save to record the shutout.

UNH is now 0-2 and UConn is 1-0.

UNH returns to action next weekend at Indiana University for games against the Hoosiers (Sept. 4; 3pm) and Central Michigan University (Sept. 6; 12pm)
The Wildcats' home opener is Sept. 20 against Boston University.

FIRST QUARTER

UConn converted the first corner of the game into the first shot of the game and goal of the game for a 1-0 lead on Hollander's goal at 3:26.
Ross made back-to-back saves to deny Machiavelli and Paige Keller in the sixth minute.
Through 15 minutes, UConn recorded a 3-0 shot advantage.

SECOND QUARTER

UConn also generated a 3-0 edge in shots in the second quarter.
The Huskies scored their second goal on another direct shot off a corner, this time off the stick of Zich at 15:48.
Machiavelli extended the advantage to 3-0 at 26:25.

THIRD QUARTER

Zich struck again 2:28 into the second half.
UConn sustained pressure and this time Zich's shot off a corner was turned aside by Ross at 33:24.
The Huskies were awarded another corner in the 43^rd minute and Ross made a save on Olivia Donahue' shot.
A corner by UConn in the last minute of the third quarter produced two more shots, but Ross made the save on both.
The Huskies were awarded a penalty stroke, however, and Abby Davidson converted for a 5-0 lead at 44:44.

FOURTH QUARTER

In the 47^th minute, a series of three consecutive UConn corners generated five shots, three of which were turned aside by Ross and Johnson made the defensive save on another.
UNH generated its first corner of the game in the 51^st minute and that produced a shot by Mckenna Nelson (Keene, N.H.) but that attempt was blocked by a Huskies' defender.

UNH NOTEBOOK

Ross, who entered the season with a career high of six saves, made 26 saves in the first two games of the 2026 season. She had a .788 save percentage against the pair of nationally-ranked teams on opening weekend.
Johnson recorded the second defensive save of her career; the first was in the 2023 America East quarterfinal game.
