Calcari and Knuttel Score Goals in 4-2 Loss to Delaware

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Brecken Calcari (St. Louis, Mo.) and Kathelijne Knuttel (Groningen, Netherlands) both scored a goal in the University of New Hampshire field hockey team's 4-2 loss to the University of Delaware on Saturday at the University of Iowa's Grant Field.
UNH starting goalie Abby Johnson (Walpole, Mass.), the reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, made one save and surrendered three goals in the first quarter. Kerigan Ross (Baltimore, Md.) entered at the start of the second quarter and was credited with four saves in 45 minutes.
UD was led offensively by Kate Fiest's two goals and goalie Cecile van Eijck stopped three shots.
UNH is now 2-4 and Delaware is 2-2.

FIRST QUARTER
- Delaware quickly built a 2-0 lead on a Fiest's goals at 1:19 and 2:31.
- UNH responded by generating a penalty corner 11 seconds later and Kathelijne Knuttel (Groningen, Netherlands) sent a shot wide.
- The Wildcats pressured again in the fifth minute and Faye Meijer (Purmerend, Netherlands) was denied by van Eijck.
- New Hampshire generated another corner in the 10th minute. Knuttel's initial shot was stopped by van Eijck and the shot off the rebound by Ella Pratt (Denver, Colo.) was blocked.
- UNH trimmed the deficit to 2-1 at 11:37 when Knuttel scored her fourth goal of the season.
- Elle Patterson answered with Elle Patterson's goal 52 seconds later to reestablish a two goal advantage, 3-1, at 12:29.
SECOND QUARTER
- Both the shots (3-3) and corners (1-1) were even in the scoreless second quarter.
- UNH pressured late in the half when Knuttel's shot ricocheted off the post at 28:08 and Tasmin Cookman (London, England) followed with a shot wide of the cage.
THIRD QUARTER
- New Hampshire generated scoring chances in the opening minutes of the second half. On a corner, Knuttel sent a shot wide and then the 'Cats generated two more consecutive corners, the latter of which ended with another shot wide by Knuttel.
- In the 36th minute, UNH struck another shot wide of the cage – this time it was Addison MacNeil (Brentwood, N.H.) off a corner.
- Ross made saves in the 37th and 38th minutes to keep the 'Cats within 3-1.
- UD converted another corner into a Lulu Fulton goal and 4-1 lead at 41:48.
FOURTH QUARTER
- New Hampshire once again pressured early in the quarter and generated a pair of corners, the second of which produced a shot by MacNeil that was blocked.
- Calcari scored her second goal of the season at 55:16 to lift UNH within 4-2.
- UD earned a corner in the closing seconds and Ross denied Rachael Whitehead to keep the margin at two goals.

- Knuttel is UNH's leader in both goals (four) and points (nine).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Delaware finished with the edge in shots (15-14), shots on goal (9-5).
