UNH Alum Elle Purrier St. Pierre Breaks North American & Championship Record in Women's 3k

GLASGOW, Scotland – On Saturday, March 11, University of New Hampshire alum, Elle Purrier St. Pierre won the women's 3000 meter run at the World Athletics Indoor Championships. This is her first global championship title and the first time this a former Wildcat has achieved this in the history of UNH Athletics. Purrier St. Pierre also set both a North American and championship record in the women's 3000-meter run, clocking in a time of 8:20.87, shaving nearly five seconds off of her previous 3k indoor PR. This incredible feat came just three weeks after she had set an American record in the women's indoor mile.
Having graduated from UNH in 2018, Purrier St. Pierre has had a remarkable athletic journey as a Wildcat. Throughout her collegiate career, she earned the prestigious titles of 11-time All-American and 17-time America East Champion, competing in cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field. Notably, she claimed the NCAA national championship in the mile during the 2018 indoor meet. Furthermore, Purrier St. Pierre set impressive records, holding six individual and four relay records.
During the 2017 cross-country season, she added to her achievements by securing her third consecutive America East individual title, leading her team to their fifth consecutive team victory. Additionally, Purrier St. Pierre demonstrated her prowess by winning consecutive Northeast Regional Championships, earning recognition as the Regional Runner of the Year. She also showcased her talent on the national stage, finishing in 18th place at the NCAA championships.
