UNH Alum Elle Purrier St. Pierre Breaks American Record in Women's Indoor Mile

NEW YORK – On Sunday, Feb. 11, University of New Hampshire alum Elle Purrier St. Pierre made headlines by smashing the American record for the women's indoor mile. Competing in the renowned Wannamaker Mile at the Millrose Games, she clocked an impressive time of 4 minutes, 16.41 seconds to beat her previous record of 4:16.85. Notably, Purrier St. Pierre's original feat surpassed an American record that had stood for over 37 years.
In a moment of triumph, Elle, who became a mother to son Ivan less than a year ago, declared on her Instagram, "This one's for the moms!" highlighting her dedication to empowering women throughout pregnancy and motherhood.
A graduate of UNH in 2018, Purrier St. Pierre boasts an impressive athletic career as a Wildcat. She was an 11-time All-American and 17-time America East Champion across UNH's cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field teams; she was the NCAA national champion in the mile at the 2018 indoor meet. In addition, Purrier St. Pierre holds six individual records and four relay records.
In the 2017 cross-country season, she clinched her third America East individual title, leading the 'Cats to their fifth consecutive team victory. Additionally, Purrier St. Pierre secured consecutive Northeast Regional Championships, earning the title of Regional Runner of the Year, and finished 18th at the NCAA championships.
