Barker & Hedström Each Earn Silver as UNH Places Third Overall at Dartmouth Carnival

Barker records first career podium and Hedström posts second career podium.
LYME, N.H. – Sophomore Hattie Barker (Underhill, Vt.) earned her first career podium and sophomore Isac Hedström (Are, Sweden) posed his second career podium to lead the University of New Hampshire ski team on Day 2 of the Dartmouth Carnival on Saturday. Barker was second in the 15K classic and Hedström placed second in the slalom.
The women's team was second in the 15K classic with 114 points, while the men's team was sixth with 77 points. The men's Alpine team placed second in the slalom with 111 points and the women's team posted a fourth-place finish with 79 points.
UNH placed third overall out of 14 teams with 696 points. Vermont won with 948 points, while Dartmouth was second (794), Middlebury was fourth (613.5) and Colby was fifth (606.5).
The Wildcats will return to action on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16-17 at the Williams Carnival.

Barker made the podium for the first time in her collegiate career as she placed second (52:50.9) gaining 47 points. Senior Lea Stabaek Wenaas (Oslo, Norway) secured 37 points as she finished sixth (53:30.0), while senior captain Luci Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) was 11th (54:56.5) adding 30 points. Sophomore Emma Barsness (Glenwood Springs, Colo.) was the fourth Wildcat to post a top-20 finish as she was 16th (55:10.7).
Junior Roger Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) led the men's team at 11th (42:24.2) and earned 30 points. Junior Eli Gore (Madison, Wis.) picked up 26 points by placing 16th (42:31.2) and graduate student Charles Martell (Exeter, N.H.) was 23rd (43:19.0) posting 21 points.
Hedström garnered his second career podium as he placed second (1:42.53) and earned 47 points. Graduate student Hunter Brayton (Waterville Valley, N.H.) also posted a top-five finish at fifth (1:42.91) securing 39 points, while senior captain Peder Nersnaes (Oslo, Norway) picked up 25 points at 15th (1:44.77). Sophomore Zachary Temertzoglou (Toronto, Ontario) also recorded a top-20 finish at 16th (1:44.82).
Junior captain Zoe Michael (Sydney, Australia) led the women's Alpine team with a 10th place finish (1:44.46) as she totaled 31 points. Sophomore Tilde Kandell was 11th (1:44.62) gaining 30 points and junior Maia Garfield (Meriden, N.H.) was 27th (1:49.78) tallying 18 points.
