Abaka-Amuah Wins Two Events in Season Opener at Alden Invite

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior thrower Yoofi Abaka-Amuah (Worcester, Mass.) captured first place in both the shot put and weight throw to highlight the University of New Hampshire men's track & field team's third-place finish in Saturday's season opener at the Alden Invitational that was held at Brown University's Olney-Margolies Athletic Center.
Abaka-Amuah won the shot put with a throw of 55-feet, 10.25 inches on the fifth of his six attempts. In the weight throw, he recorded the top effort of 64-5.5 on his second of six attempts.
Abaka-Amuah earned 20 of UNH's 91.5 total points as the Wildcats placed behind Holy Cross (107 points) and Rhode Island (104) in the seven-team event.
Grad student Aidan Shea (Amherst, Mass.) also had a first-place effort as he was the fastest runner in the 3,000-meter with a time of 8 minutes, 31.23 seconds.
Junior Caden Zalenski (Milford, N.H.) recorded a pair of top-5 finishes with second place in the shot put at a distance of 54-0.50 and fifth place in the weight throw with a mark of 59-1.25.
