BOSTON – Freshman Lydia Hart (Cornwall, ON, Canada) of the University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team was named both the America East Female Swimmer of the Week and the America East Female Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.
This is Hart's first time earning both of these weekly awards.
Hart delivered exceptional performances at the Bruno Invitational, highlighted by a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:47.91. Competing against top swimmers from Ivy League, A-10, CAA, Big East, and America East programs, Hart's victory set a UNH freshman record and marked the fastest time in the conference this season. She is the only America East swimmer to break 4:50 and leads the conference by nearly seven seconds. Additionally, her time was just shy of the NCAA B standard and eight seconds faster than the next-closest conference swimmer in the event over the weekend.
In the 1650 freestyle, Hart clocked a third-place time of 16:40.88, earning an NCAA B standard qualification. Her performance ranks as the fastest in the America East this season, leading the next-closest swimmer by more than 30 seconds.
Hart also contributed to the Wildcats' 800 freestyle relay team that posted a time of 7:34.13, the second-fastest in the conference to date. Hart's split of 1:50.36 was the fastest among all America East swimmers in the event and stands as the second-fastest time in the conference for the 200 freestyle this season.
UNH returns to action Dec. 7 at Swasey Pool as Northeastern comes to town. The meet is set to start at 12 p.m.
