Freshman Hart Wins 500 Free with Fastest Time in America East
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team wrapped up a successful four-day invitational meet at Brown on Sunday night.
"This was a great meet with high-level competition that brought out the best in a lot of our swimmers," head coach Josh Willman said.
Freshman Lydia Hart (Cornwall, ON, Canada) shined in the 500 freestyle, winning the event with a time of 4:47.91. Her performance set a UNH freshman record and marked the fastest time in the America East this season. She narrowly missed the overall program record of 4:46.95, set by Anna Metzler in 2020.
Hart also delivered a strong third-place finish in the 1650 freestyle, clocking in at 16:40.88, just two seconds shy of another UNH freshman record.
Junior Audrey Mahoney (Downers Grove, Ill.) claimed victory in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 49.83, and added a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.11 seconds.
Sophomore Grace Blume (Dedham, Mass.) earned top-five finishes in both diving events, placing fourth in the 1-meter dive with a finals score of 248.60 (250.10 in prelims) and fourth again in the 3-meter dive with a score of 246.95.
Sophomore Grace Mahon (Orange, Conn.) impressed in the butterfly events, finishing fourth in the 200 with a time of 2:01.89 and securing sixth place in the 100 at 54.73.
Freshman Teagen Jeffers (Bedford, N.H.) and junior Trinity Devanney (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) scored in the 400-yard IM, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively. Jeffers recorded a time of 4:29.28, while Devanney followed closely at 4:30.19.
With a time of 17:16.34, freshman Marisa White (Apex, N.C.) secured seventh in the 1650 freestyle, achieving a nearly 20-second drop for a lifetime best.
Sophomore Emily Wright (Ventura, Calif.) finished in eighth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.38
Senior Grace Sala (Sun Prairie, Wis.) gave UNH another eighth-place finish, completing the 200 butterfly in 2:04.54.
Freshman Amelia Labno (Rosemount, Minn.) placed ninth in the 200 back, breaking the two-minute barrier with a time of 1:59.57, which was the fifth-fastest at the meet and within 1.2 seconds of the freshman program record.
