BOSTON – Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.), a sophomore libero on the University of New Hampshire volleyball team, was named the America East Defensive Specialist of the Week on Tuesday.
LePore has received this accolade all four weeks of the 2023 season. Since the inception of the America East Defensive Specialist of the Week award in 2015, LePore is the first student-athlete to earn the accolade the first four weeks of a season.
The last time any America East player won four consecutive Defensive Specialist of the Week awards was in 2017, when one player was honored six consecutive weeks.
LePore was UNH's leader in both digs (51) and digs per set (4.25) as the Wildcats went 1-2 at the Jayhawk Classic, which included 20th-ranked Kansas, on Sept. 15-16.
LePore led all players with 26 digs in the 3-2 loss to Texas State, and later that day she tied for the team lead with eight digs against No. 20 Kansas.
In the 3-1 win vs. Bellarmine, LePore once again led all players in digs with 17.
Kansas hit at a .330 clip, but UNH held Texas State to a .210 team hitting percentage, which was lower than UNH's .216, and Bellarmine to .149.
On the national leaderboard, LePore is No. 10 in digs per set with a conference-leading mark of 5.30.
UNH (8-5) returns to action against intrastate rival Dartmouth College on Saturday, Sept. 23 (6 p.m.), which is Jill Hirschinger Day. The Wildcats will honor the legendary head coach and her America East championship teams.
