Ski Team Celebrates Accomplishments of 2023 Season

Martelleur, Nersnaes, Schulz and Wenaas named MVPs.
DURHAM, N.H. – The UNH ski team formally concluded the 2023 season by recognizing the team's achievements and individual award winners at its end of the year event on Bremner Field.
UNH placed eighth overall at the 2023 NCAA Championships out of 22 teams with 234 points. This was the third straight top 10 finish for the Wildcats as they were sixth in 2022 and ninth in 2021. The women's team finished fourth overall with a combined 153 points which is the best in program history.
TEAM MVPS
The winners of the 2023 Nordic team MVPs were junior Lea Stabaek Wenaas (Oslo, Norway) for the women's team and senior Scott Schulz (Lake Placid, N.Y.) for the men's team. The recipients of the Alpine team MVPs were freshman Hedda Martelleur (Uppsala, Sweden) on the women's side and junior Peder Nersnaes (Oslo, Norway) on the men's side.
ALL-EAST
Senior Luci Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) and Schulz earned first team All-East recognition, while junior Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario) and Wenaas were on the second team. Anderson won the EISA freestyle points title with 200 during the 2023 EISA season.
NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Anderson, Lyons, Wenaas and Schulz competed at the NCAA Championships for the Nordic team, while Martelleur, sophomore Zoe Michael (Sydney, Australia), graduate student Lisa Olsson (Stockholm, Sweden), freshman Isac Hedstrom (Are, Sweden), Nersnaes and sophomore Mons Langaard (Oslo, Norway) competed for the Alpine team. Sophomore Beth Granstrom (Revelstoke, British Columbia), freshman Hattie Barker (Underhill, Vt.) and senior Marius Solbakken (Bekkestua, Norway) also qualified for the NCAA Championships.
ALL-AMERICA
Lyons earned first team All-America accolades as she placed second in the 5K freestyle at the NCAA Championships. She also posted second team All-America honors with a sixth-place finish in the 20K classic.
STRONG ACADEMICS
For the fall semester the men's team posted the best GPA of any UNH varsity team with a 3.82, while the women's team had the second best with a 3.76 GPA.
For the second time in her career, Olsson won the prestigious Elite 90 Award for having the best GPA of any athlete at the NCAA Championships.
Twenty-eight members of the program were named to the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team.
Anderson, Barker, junior Sanne Cassee (Anchorage, Alaska), freshman Emma Charles (Farmington, Maine), junior Georgianna Fischer (Bozeman, Mont.), Granstrom, junior Alice House (Madison, Wis.), senior Emma Kearing (Carrabassett Valley, Maine), Lyons, Martelleur, Olsson, sophomore Gaia Palamara (Verona Italy), Wenaas and senior McKenna Wilson (Bristol, N.H.) earned the honor on the women's side.
Sophomore Roger Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.), graduate student Max Bervy (Vail, Colo.), junior Hayden Dahl (Plymouth, N.H.), sophomore Eli Gore (Madison, Wis.), Hedstrom, Langaard, sophomore Nathan Maybach (Boise, Idaho), graduate student Andrew Meyer (Bozeman, Mont.), Nersnaes, graduate student Jordan Phillips (Montreal, Quebec), junior James Schneider (Plymouth, Minn.), Schulz, Solbakken and junior Seth Wyatt (Bozeman, Mont.) received the accolade on the men's team.
Also Dahl, Nersnaes, Schneider, Wyatt, Schulz, Solbakken, Cassee, Fischer, House, Lyons, Wenaas, Luci Anderson, Kearing and Wilson were inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma.
At the event the team recognized the graduate students: Anders Sonnesyn (Minneapolis, Minn.), Meyer, Phillips, Olsson, Ingrid Norton (Midway, Utah) and Bervy.
And then thanked the seniors: Wilson, Kearing, Luci Anderson, Heidi Ann Booher (Anchorage, Alaska), Solbakken, Schulz, Everett Olson (Snowmass Village, Colo.) and Kieran Hahn (Steamboat Springs, Colo.).
WESPYS
At the WESPYs, five skiers earned honors. Schulz won the Urquhart Student-Athlete of the Year Award and the Tina True Award. Lyons was named the Performer of the Year, while Meyer and Olsson won the Athletic Director's Award for Academic Excellence.
