McGrath Breaks His Outdoor High Jump Record in Virginia While ‘Cats Compete in George Davis Invitational at UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. – Four different Wildcats won their events Saturday afternoon as the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team competed in the George Davis Invitational at the Cushing Field Complex at UMass Lowell. Graduate Student Kevin McGrath (Hopkinton, N.H.) was at the University of Virginia on Saturday to compete in the Virginia Challenge Meet where he broke his own outdoor high jump school record for the second time this season.
RESULTS
FIELD EVENTS
Freshman Caden Zalenski (Milford, N.H.) had the best finish for the Wildcats in the shot put, placing fifth with a throw of 47' 11.75" (14.62m). Sophomore Max Rome (North Kingston, R.I.) finished in ninth place, reaching a distance of 43' 11.75" (13.40m). Senior Andrew Fleming (Acton, Mass.) had a throw of 43' 9.75" (13.35m) to place tenth.
Freshman Liam McGovern (North Kingstown, R.I.) placed fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 184' 7" (56.26m) while Fleming placed right behind him with a distance of 181' 2" (55.23m) on his throw. Zalenski came in seventh place in the event with a throw of 162' 3" (49.45m) while Rome placed eighth, reaching a distance of 157' 5" (47.99m).
Freshman Max LaPointe (Amesbury, Mass.) secured the top finish in the discus throw with an impressive throw of 147' 9" (45.04m). Zalenski placed third with a distance of 140' 7" (42.87m) while freshman Jack Washam (Nashua, N.H.) came in eighth after throwing for 130' 6" (39.79m) to set a new personal best.
Freshman Jayson Blaisdell (Barrington, N.H.) came in seventh place in the javelin throw, reaching a mark of 161' 10" (49.34m).
Freshman Kyran Maher (Andover, Mass.) came in ninth place in the pole vault with a height of 12' 11.50" (3.95m).
Junior Andrew Kelly (Portsmouth, N.H.) finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 43' 9.75" (13.35m). Kelly also finished in fourth place in the high jump, reaching a height of 6' (1.83m).
TRACK EVENTS
Sophomore Aidan Shea (Amherst, Mass.) made his debut in the 2-mile run and finished in first place with a time of 9:06.05 while fellow sophomore Brayden Kearns (Deerfield, N.H.) came in seventh place with a time of 9:29.75.
In the 3000m Steeplechase, freshman Joshua Lesniak (Durham, Conn.) placed third with a time of 10:02.23.
Senior William Curran (Old Saybrook, Conn.) set a new personal best and won the 1500m run with a time of 3:55.82. Senior Kenney McElroy (West Linn. Ore.) crossed the finish line soon after for a third-place finish with a time of 3:59.98 in his first time running in the 1500m.
Freshmen Michael Mulcahy and Sam Street finished back-to-back with just .06 seconds in between their finishes in the 100m dash as Mulcahy came in sixth place with a time of 11.45 seconds. Mulcahy also finished in the top 10 of the 200m dash with a time of 22.87 seconds to come in eighth place.
In the 400m hurdles, junior Adrian Sutton (Rochester, N.H.) won the event with a time of 54.65 seconds to set a new personal best in the event.
A trio of Wildcats finished in the top 10 of the 5000m run with sophomore Kevin Finn (Kennebunk, Maine) placing second, crossing the finish line at 14:43.56. Sophomore Peyton Ramsey (Plainville, Conn.) finished fourth with a time of 14:47.71 and freshman Zachary Hooper (Concord, N.H.) finished right behind him at 14:48.91.
The five-man team of Mulcahy, Street, Sutton, freshman Nathan Fletcher (Portsmouth, N.H.), and Maher notched a fourth-place finish in the 4x100m relay race with a time of 42.74 seconds.
VIRGINIA CHALLENGE MEET
The 'Cats sent junior Joshua Hoffman (Litchfield, N.H.) and McGrath to Charlottesville, Va. to the University of Virginia to compete in the Virginia Challenge Meet.
McGrath showed out by breaking his own outdoor high jump school record for the second time this season with a leap of 6' 10.25" (2.09m) which notched him a second-place finish in the event while placing first out of every collegiate competitor.
Hoffman placed fourth in the discus throw, launching the discus a distance of 173' 4".
NEXT UP
The Wildcats return to action for the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa beginning on Thursday, April 27 with the event concluding on Saturday, April 29. They will also be competing in the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. during the same timeframe as the Drake Relays.
