Cookman Sisters Propel UNH to 6-0 Border Battle Win vs. Maine

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore forward and captain Tasmin Cookman (Woking, England) led the attack with three goals and one assist in the University of New Hampshire field hockey team's 6-0 victory over rival University of Maine on Friday afternoon at Memorial Field.
Sophomore midfielder Tamera Cookman (Woking, England) was also highly involved in the attack by scoring one goal and notching three assists. Senior back Lindsay Lee (Eindhoven, Netherlands) also recorded a goal and and assist while midfielder Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario) got on the scoresheet with one goal and grad student Leah Glidden (Kittery, Maine) tallied an assist.
Graduate student goalie Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) saved the one shot she faced pm goal as she earned her second shutout of the season.
Maine goalie Mallory Drayer played the entire game and recorded five saves. Olivia Geniti was credited with a defensive save.
With the win in the Border Battle, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings, UNH improved to 10-4 and remained unbeaten both at home (6-0) and in America East conference play (6-0). Maine is now 6-8, 3-3 AE.

FIRST QUARTER
- The opening quarter was scoreless with UNH edging out Maine in shots (2-0) and corners (1-0).
SECOND QUARTER
- Maine came back in the second to earn more corners than UNH (2-0), but UNH still outshot the Black Bears (3-2).
THIRD QUARTER
- UNH's offense exploded to outscore Maine 4-0, as well as outshooting them 6-0, in the third quarter.
- It all started off of a corner taken by Lee with Tasmin Cookman stopping the pass and Tamera Cookman slotting it home at 31:57 to ignite the flurry of goals.
- The second goal came at 35:05 off a scramble in front with Leah Glidden (Kittery, Maine) putting a shot on net stopped by Geniti's defensive save and Tasmin Cookman batting in the rebound out of midair into the cage.
- Tasmin Cookman then scored again in transition with Tamera Cookman cutting through the Maine defense, maneuvering to the right, then slipping a pass to the left for Tasmin, who fired it into the open cage at 38:12.
- Poulakis scored the last goal of the quarter at 39:22 as she gained control of the ball near the end line on the right side and dribbled around the Black Bears' defenders before reaching the middle of the circle and firing it between the goaltender's legs.
FOURTH QUARTER
- UNH didn't let up in the final frame as the Wildcats added two more goals, outshot Maine (5-0), and edged Maine in corners (2-1).
- Tasmin Cookman added her third of the game off a set play on a corner with Tamera Cookman receiving the ball on the right side of the box then passing it back to Tasmin, who fired it home at 56:30.
- Lee put the exclamation point on the victory by scoring with another set play on a corner at 58:30. She inserted the ball to Tasmin Cookman at the top of the circle, where Tamera Cookman passed it back to Lee, who snuck back into play at the left post and redirect the final goal in.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- UNH finished with the advantage in shots (16-2), shots on goals (12-1) and corners (4-3).
UNH NOTEBOOK
- This was Tasmin Cookman's second hat trick of the season and fourth of her career. She also recorded her season high and tied her career high with seven points.
- She now is tied for the lead in America East for both goals (15) and points (34).
- Tamera Cookman recorded her season high in points with five and career high in assists with three.
- She is now second in the conference in game-winning goals (four) and tied for fourth in assists with six; teammate Poulakis is first in America East with eight.
- This was the second time this season Lee recorded a goal and assist.
- UNH is 6-0 in America East for the first time in program history.
- The six conference wins are the most by the Wildcats since the 1999 and 2000 teams both finished 7-1 in conference play.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- UNH has a 30-21 lifetime record against Maine.
- The Cats' snapped a five-game losing streak in the series with their victory.
