Boutilier Makes 32 Saves in 8-1 Loss at #4 Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) made 32 saves but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was defeated 8-1 by No. 4 University of Minnesota in Saturday evening's East/West Showcase finale at Ridder Arena.
Boutilier made 10 saves in the first period, then stopped 13 of 15 shots in the second and made nine more saves in the final frame.
Emily Pinto (Mulmur, Ontario) scored UNH's goal with Brianna Brooks (Whitby, Ontario) and Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario) credited with assists.
Minnesota was led offensively by Grace Zumwinkle (two goals, four assists), Abbey Murphy (two goals, two assists) and Ella Huber (one goal, two assists). Makayla Pahl made seven of her 15 saves in the first period.
UNH moves to 7-16-0 while the Golden Gophers extended their winning streak to six games to improve to 16-3-2.

FIRST PERIOD
- Minnesota recorded a 13-7 shot advantage and scored three goals in the opening 20 minutes of the game.
- Catie Skaja gave the home team a 1-0 lead at 4:09 when she collected a drop pass from Abigail Boreen at the right point and advanced to the low slot for the goal.
- Grace Zumwinkle extended the advantage to 2-0 at 10:13 when she carried the puck the length of the ice on the right wing and wristed a shot inside the near post.
- Minnesota converted the first power play of the game into a goal and 3-0 lead on Madeline Wethington's screened slap shot from the right point at 14:47.
- Juodikis had a dangerous scoring chance in front of the net in the closing seconds but was denied by Pahl.
SECOND PERIOD
- The Golden Gophers outscored New Hampshire 2-1 with a 15-7 shot advantage in the second period.
- Juodikis, who had the last scoring chance of the first period, also had first good scoring chance of the second stanza but once again her shot was stopped by Pahl.
- Off a faceoff at 5:28, Emily Rickwood (Branford, Ontario) blasted a shot from the point that Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) redirected in front, but Pahl's quick reflexes produced a leg pad save to preserve the three-goal lead.
- Huber extended the advantage to 4-0 at 15:08.
- Pinto scored her fourth goal of the season 27 seconds later to lift UNH within 4-1.
- Murphy's redirection at the right doorstep reestablished a four-goal lead, 5-1, with 38 seconds on the clock.
THIRD PERIOD
- UM netted three more goals in the final frame with a 12-2 shot advantage.
- Minnesota went on the second power play of the game at 4:28, but this time UNH's penalty kill did not allow a shot on goal as the Wildcats blocked both attempted shots.
- The Golden Gophers returned to the power play at 9:04 and Taylor Heise scored 21 seconds later to push the lead to 6-1.
- UNH went on its first power play at 10:08 but did not record a shot on goal.
- Murphy netted her second goal of the game at 13:49 to give the home team a 7-1 advantage.
- Grace Zumwinkle potted her second goal to close the scoring at 17:40.

- Minnesota finished with a 40-16 shot advantage and 37-22 edge in the faceoff circle.
- The Golden Gophers scored on 2 of 4 power plays while UNH was 0-for-2.

- Rickwood was credited with two blocks to extend her team-high season total to 45.
- Brianna Legros (New Liskeard, Ontario) led all skaters with three blocks.

SERIES NOTEBOOK
