‘Cats Celebrate Senior Day but Fall in Dual-Meet vs. Holy Cross

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team was defeated in a dual-meet with Holy Cross Sunday afternoon at Paul Sweet Oval as the program celebrated eight graduating seniors.
The Wildcats finished the day with 76.5 points as a team and Holy Cross outscored them with 90.5 points.

SENIOR DAY
Prior to the dual-meet, eight student-athletes from the men's track and field team were honored as part of the senior day ceremony:

FIELD EVENTS
Senior Andrew Fleming (Acton, Mass.) came out on top in the weight throw with a mark of 55' 8", followed by sophomore Max Rome (North Kingston, R.I.) placing second at 49' 4", and freshman Caden Zalenski (Milford, N.H.) taking third with a 46' 6" throw.
Junior Joshua Hoffman (Litchfield, N.H.) won the shot put with a throw of 55' 2" followed by Zalenski who took second at 47' 2.5".
Graduate student Kevin McGrath (Hopkinton, N.H.) continued his dominance in the high jump with a leap of 6' 6.75" to win the event.
RUNNING EVENTS
Freshman Samuel Hilts (Concord, N.H.) took first place in the mile run with a time of 4:17.18, followed by fellow Wildcats senior Aidan O'Hern (Concord, N.H.), 4:19.24, and freshman John Murphy (Derrfield, N.H.), 4:22.49.
Senior Alexander Cermak (Manchester, N.H.) podiumed with a third place finish in the 500m run with a time of 1:15.44.
Holy Cross runner Jack Welch won the 800m run with a time of 1:57.67 with senior Kenny McElroy (West Linn, Ore.) finishing closely behind him with a time of 1:57.98.
Senior William Curran (Old Saybrook, Conn.) topped the 1000m run with a time of 2:32.81 with senior Dillon Adamy crossing the finish line at 2:35.81, good for a third-place finish.
Two 'Cats runners placed atop the 3000m run, sophomore Brayden Kearns (Deerfield, N.H) finished first clocking in at 8:50.48 and freshman Zachary Hooper (Concord, N.H.) notched a time of 9:13.81 for second place.
UNH won the 3200m relay with Adamy, McElroy, Curran, and junior Zack Plaza (Auburn, N.H.) combined for a time of 8:06.19.
The Wildcats came out on top in the 1600m relay with junior Adrian Sutton, freshman Joseph Dumont (Cherry Hills Village, Colo.), sophomore Aidan Shea (Amherst, Mass.), and freshman Nathan Fletcher (Portsmouth, N.H.) rallying together for a time of 3:32.36.
BC EAGLE ELITE INVITATIONAL (1/20/23)
The 'Cats sent Aidan Shea to The TRACK at New Balance on Friday, Jan. 20 to run the 1-mile race, placing third among 11 runners with a time of 4:08.17. Boston College hosted the event, which was attended by Army-West Point, Northeastern, UConn, Harvard, and Assumption.
